Nina Sayers | Black Swan | Familiar (CW: mental illness--delusions, accidental self-deletion)

Arrival

The last thing Nina remembered was the brilliant stage lights, finally satisfied at having become perfect. After so much time, after so many people getting in her way, she'd been perfect. That was all she'd wanted to be.

Finding out that there was a level of perfection even higher than she'd attained was irresistible. She strongly suspected that she'd not have the chance to improve further on the stage at home, but the stage in a new world was a new challenge, one Nina felt she had to rise up to.

Though, she may have thought twice if she'd been told that she'd fall from the sky.

Nina's arms had sprouted black feathers all the way up and down them and she attempted to use them to fly, only for herself to change. Change into a real black swan. Even here, she was the Swan Queen.

She landed lightly on the ground in her swan form, but there was another small problem Nina had neglected to consider.

Now that she was a swan, how did she become a woman again? Nina waddled gracelessly (which humiliated her so badly, all she wanted to do was hide when she realized that real swans weren't graceful all the time) to another new Star Child and honked at them hopefully.

If they saw her as a swan, maybe she hadn't let her imagination in those moments on the stage carry her away after all?

Scavengers Survive

Nina gaped as the rules of the--what was it? A game? A trick? An act of cruelty?--were explained.

She was to make a list of everything she'd need to survive, but survival to Nina meant something entirely different than what she was afraid they meant by survival.

Nina had given her list: toe shoes, leotards, dance skirts, shrugs, and a nail clipper. All things she needed to survive back home, but as soon as she confirmed that she was done making her list, she was given a terribly judgmental look. At the time, it had made little sense.

Now it did. Nina was trying to find her way through a terrible forest with trees and insects and seemingly no way out!

She'd found the items on her list handily enough, but rocks and sticks penetrated the soles of toe shoes that had never been meant for hiking through the forest. She was certain that she was being feasted upon by mosquitoes and she was afraid of worse sticking themselves to her as she blindly crashed through the forest. One direction was as good as any other, she was terribly lost.

Perhaps irrevocably lost.

So Nina sat down on a boulder and began to cry nowhere near as quietly as she thought she was.
