Pandora's Fox II
PANDORA'S FOX II

If you were here last June, do you remember that app that appeared on the relics then, Pandora's Fox? It's all about finding your Familiar bond. It's been available for people to use since every Star Child was forced to fill it out or have it filled out for them with its grand reveal. However, it's sat quietly in the background unobtrusive to those who didn't click to see what it was about.
Until now.
That's right, Pandora's Fox is back! (and with a makeover). The app has been rejiggered with old questions and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a Familiar bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!
Familiar bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!
This is game canon!

[ He's tempted to get started on it here, but considering they hadn't gotten to take much with them from their worlds to this place, he's not counting on being able to take shit from here back home.
And there's nothing worse than losing something you've already written and having to get it all down again. It's never as good the second time.
Hawke's response gets a laugh in return, a cackle of amusement with a series of sharp trills. His golden eyes may be eagle-like in this form, but he still manages to shoot a sly little look at him. ]
What, afraid you can't handle it? I know, I know, I'm one awe inspiring specimen, but I think you're up to the challenge.

[ Even if more and more Hawke wants to keep the life he's built here. He knows, eventually, he has to go home and fix what he helped Anders break. ]
I did almost faint the first time I saw your chest hair. [ He nod solemnly like he's in the middle of a Chantry service and the Mother has said something truly deep and inspiring. ]
Alright, but if you drop me I'm going to lord it over you for the rest of our lives. [ Hawke takes a deep breath before he moves around to Varric's side. He's never had much experience with horses or riding animals of any kind. He's a bit awkward scrambling up onto his friend's back and trying to settle. ]
no subject
But thoughts like "what will home look like when they get back" and "what will they look like after however long they end up spending here" are much better left for when he's a dwarf, and preferably more than a few drinks in. Right now it glides right off of him.
There are benefits to the less complex thinking ability he's found himself having like this, even if it comes with bigger emotions. ]
It's the effect I have on people. [ He hangs his head with equal solemnity. ] Truly a heavy burden to bear.
[ Speaking of bigger emotions - there's an immediate protective instinct, sharp and fierce, at even the idea of letting Hawke fall. Fortunately he manages to swallow it back before he says something that embarrasses himself, and instead bows down to try to make it as easy as possible for Hawke to climb on. ]
Well, with that hanging over my head, I better make sure this is good. I hate to think of how many drinks I'd owe you otherwise.
[ He waits until it seems like Hawke is as settled as he's going to be, shifting his own weight a little to stabilize him, and then starts off at a run. Better to get a feel for it before he launches them into the air. ]

Hawke was not expecting running. He makes a little sound of surprise and grabs tight to some of the feathers in front of him. ]
How much flying experience do you have again?
[ Because he's remembering that landing and that Varric said not much. If he didn't trust Varric with his life and soul he would demand to be let down right now. ]
You are very lucky that you're my best friend in all the world otherwise I would have serious doubts about this.
[ As it is he's going to hang on and trust Varric. He's going to try this adventure and see where it leads. ]
no subject
So he just skims on over that for now. ]
We'll be fine. I did a rescue mission in Epiphany and didn't even drop her back into the water after we got her out.
[ But he figures he needs to put his money where his mouth is - or his wings where his mouth is, here. He pushes off, wings beating heavily as they start to climb.
Once they're up high enough, instinct takes over completely and he levels off, coasting along as the wind ruffles through his feathers. ]
See? Flying's the easy part.

[ The sound is utterly embarrassing for the former Champion of Kirkwall who has faced down high dragons and defeated the Arishok in one-on-one combat. He should not sound like a little girl who's seen a spider.
He also clings a little tighter to Varric, squeezing with his legs to make sure he stays on. Because there's no ground under his feet anymore. It's madness. He really needs to work on becoming a dragon so he can fly on his own. ]
Yeah, sure, easy. [ He laughs and there's a slightly nervous edge. ] Maker's balls, Varric, you're a flying griffon. What is this place?
no subject
It's what he's made for, after all. Or what he would be, if he was really a griffon, but it seems it's hard to tell the difference.
Still, the question resonates with him, and he chuffs out a little laugh.
What the Void is this place, indeed. ]
Near as I can tell, this is probably as close to dreaming as I'll ever get.
no subject
[ And it is very weird that there are dreams Hawke can't control. There are also less demons to fight off in his sleep but it is very strange just how little he does in his dreams these days. ]
Still, the changes can be fun. Not everything is hard toil and suffering. We do have some incredible parties. Not the stuffy Orlesian kind either.
[ He's quiet for a second. ]
But the music is awful.
[ Hawke has adapted to a lot of the modern world but the music has not really won him over. ]
no subject
And maybe it won't, when he's back in dwarf form, but right now? Flying feels natural, and dreaming still feels like something he can't even begin to understand. So he's just going to. Set that aside and ignore it until he really has to.
Surely that won't come back to bite him in the ass. ]
Good, because I've had more than enough of stuffy Orlesian parties.
[ The last one he went to all but shaped the ongoing politics of the country, which sounds like it should be interesting but involved way too much making nice with nobles and rapidly changing in and out of finery and armor for his taste.
He did find out that hus books sell way better in Orlais than his publisher was letting on, though, so that was a bonus. ]
Wait, all of the music? Are the bards here just all shit?
no subject
[ He's a little reluctant to admit that because some of the music he's heard is good. ]
The locals make good music. I rather like their stuff. Steven's played me a few things and I... well, it's just not good. All the music at his brother's wedding was simply awful.
[ But he had danced and had fun anyway because it made Steven happy. There's not much Hawke wouldn't do to make Steven happy. ]
But then again his brother's a twat so I suppose he'd have terrible taste in music to begin with.
[ The conversation has eased some of the tension about flying out of Hawke. He feels a touch more comfortable on Varric's back and he's not clinging quite as hard. ]
no subject
[ His flying is at its best like this, really - when he's not thinking so hard about it, and just letting it come naturally.
The mention of Steven's brother gets a curious little trill in response. ]
Marc, right? Charmer mentioned him. Said he'd thought I'd like him, but I'm not sure that wasn't just a misdirect to get me focused on someone else so I'd stop implying he's got the makings of a hero.
[ He's mostly teasing - he had noticed the way Steven was so good at bring Marc to the focus and lifting him up while dismissing any lead into his own merits, but one conversation isn't enough to call it.
It sounds like Hawke's had a very different experience, though. ]
How much of a twat are we talking about here?
no subject
[ Hawke almost has to laugh. He adores Steven. He's wonderful. He would say charming in his own way but he doesn't think most people would call him charming in the traditional sense. ]
Ah, he hates me because Steven and I had a fight awhile back. He's very protective of Steven so I'm the bad guy.
[ He... tolerates Marc for Steven's sake. Even though he's tried to make peace and friends Marc holds a deep, deep grudge. ]
He reminds me of Carver, a bit. Big chip on his shoulder and angry at the world but there's someone decent under there.
no subject
Charmed you, didn't he?
[ He's just not going to bring attention to the fact that Varric found him endearing enough to nickname him, and that it was pretty much all on Steven's own merit and not because of his relationship with Hawke. This way's easier.
The grunt he gives in response to that sounds just a touch like a growl. It isn't intentional - or at least, he thinks it isn't - but apparently that's the way his vocals work now.
He doesn't particularly like the idea of Marc holding a grudge against Hawke on principle. Not because he can't understand it, but because it's Hawke, and so Varric's pretty much automatically on his side. ]
Dare I even ask what you were fighting about?
no subject
[ He sighs. He can't tell Varric the whole truth because that would be a betrayal of Steven's trust and it's a shame. He's never kept anything from Varric in the whole time they've known each other. ]
We fought about it, we were sad for a little while, and then we made up. He understands why the truth is so important to me.
[ And he knows Varric would understand it as well. He lived through that betrayal. ]
That fight, though, did not endear me to Steven's brother. I'm trying to fix that but he's stubborn. A lot like Carver that way.
no subject
Granted, he's not exactly sure what he was expecting, but whatever it was, it wasn't that. If Hawke hadn't brought up Anders, Varric’s mind would have immediately gone there, and he honestly doesn't know what to think.
He trusts Hawke, though. ]
Let me guess, it's the kind of something important he doesn't want you to go around spreading to strangers, even one as infamous as me?
[ As glib as Varric sounds - and as strange as it feels not knowing something as important as whatever it was probably is - he does understand that. Steven doesn't really know him, after all.
He sits with that - or flies with it, technically - for a moment. ]
Do I need to be keeping an eye on him?
[ He says it like it's a joke, but he means it - in more than one way. Varric likes Steven, and he's important to Hawke, which already meant Varric is inclined both to know more about him and to look out for him.
It's just that there's also the Anders of it all, and just because Varric has no desire to look more closely at that tangled mess of anger and hurt and guilt doesn't mean it's not still buried in there, making him feel things. ]
no subject
[ And it was never the secret that Hawke had trouble with, just that Steven lied and once again Hawke had given his heart to someone willing to lie to him.
It was mostly all Hawke's fault but he had to be sure he could take that risk again. And he's very sure. ]
You'll keep an eye on him because you like him. [ He pokes Varric in the back of his head. ] But I promise we figured things out and we're fine now. He's honest with me. You'll see.
[ They never, ever have to talk about Anders and what happened in Kirkwall in depth ever. Folkmore might force them but when they're just chatting as friends they don't have to discuss anything. ]
