"Nero."

Vergil says his son's name neutrally. It's a mask, of course.

He hadn't been making any sort of effort to assist with cleaning up around Epiphany as of yet. Being out here now was more a matter of assessing the extent of the damages as well as carefully surveying for any signs of what it had been like out here a month ago. Vergil's trust in Thirteen's competence is...perhaps a bit strained, to say the least.

Once the moat had dissipated and it was deemed safe to travel again, Vergil made his way to his apartment to assess the damages and make some alterations to it as well given Dante was to stay with him until he decided what he wanted to do. He was fortunate. Despite some of the exterior damages to the building, his specific unit was relatively unharmed. A few things out of place, but nothing that was particularly difficult for him to correct. He gave the Lore summons a try then, seeing if it had truly returned to normal. He was pleased when a serviceable pull-out sofa manifested rather than the odd interpretations that had been persisting over the past few weeks. But more importantly, the success led Vergil to summon the Yamato finally after nearly a year of being without it.

There is little that could possibly compare to possessing his blade again, but hearing his son again pulled at his heart in ways he couldn't possibly begin articulate and he isn't even certain should be possible considering how little connects them beyond blood. But Nero has been on his mind more as of late, and it is no secret to Vergil that the decision to follow the fox spirit was at least partially motivated in wanting to return to his son. Across the street, Vergil came to a stop, nearly frozen to the spot as he stood there in a strange sense of indecision over what to do. Part of him did not want to look, not wanting to be disappointed when he discovered he managed to deceiving himself, but it did not win out in the end. He didn't interrupt, merely watched as Nero helped another and followed along several paces behind to avoid drawing attention to himself right away.

Nero shouldn't be here.

He should be back in the human world where Vergil and Dante left him. He should be among his peers and where he belongs. Not on his own in a place like this. Dante left him with a specific duty to uphold, one that Vergil also intended for Nero. That settled for Vergil alongside whatever other feelings he has at seeing Nero again, but just as the other feelings did not emerge, neither did his disapproval when he finally crossed the street and approached him. He waited until Nero was on his own again. In Vergil's experience, family reunions are often...messy at best, and he doesn't care to involve anyone else.

He does a brief once-over of Nero. It's wholly unnecessary, but some part of Vergil still is struggling to wrap his mind around Nero truly being here and in one piece.

"You look well."
