Not having to face consequences when he killed people was the dream, though he knew enough by now to know that realistically that wasn't how things ever worked out, at least not in civilized society.

Fisk had let him believe he could give Dex that working for him and had carefully orchestrated things behind the scenes so that his pet killer didn't have to face any consequences when he murdered people for the Kingpin. But reality had come crashing back in when he'd seen Julie's frozen corpse and realized it had been nothing but a fucking lie all along. Now he was determined never to be fooled ever again in that way.
