A perfectly ordinary woman, instead of an alien monster; years could easily blur the memory of what she looks like enough where the lab coat, the setting are forgotten, and the ordinary by circumstance must become extraordinary. But for now, she's a human, and her child surely must be too, still looking for her even at this age. Maybe if he'd still had that photograph in another fifteen years, a lot of people would have survived.
