Thirteen. A recent memory stirs, conjuring the faint image of a brilliant red animal. Javert remembers now, how the Fox-Woman introduced herself with the number Thirteen when she bid him to follow her down into the depths. His expression smooths with enlightenment.

Of course second chances and reaching his 'full potential,' whatever that could possibly mean, would not be so simple as waking anew. There were trials to be endured, tests to pass, toiling to rake his weary bones across. Or so the vivid dread conjures in his head about it, brow drooping low.

He tactfully does not probe about their apparent similarities in lacking constitution, according to the letter he glimpsed in the owl-bear-angel's hand. (Or is it in reference to an acquaintance who lacks constitution? Either way, regrettable that this resplendent apparition be stuck with one as lowly as him.) He gazes out towards the cave entrance, where he spots the shadow of the shark swimming, patrolling, in a lazy loop.

"The Fox-Woman has a strange way of going about it, then. What on earth could be the purpose of this 'trial,' when our captors refuse to eat us and be done with us?" He thrusts his hat upon his head, shielding his glance from the Owl-Bear-Angel's too-kindly face. "And neither do they quit delivering unwanted bits and bobs unto us."
