February-March 2024 TDM
Introduction
Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Test Drive Meme! Please feel free to test drive any and all characters regardless of your intent to apply or whether you have an invite or not.
All TDMs are game canon and work like "mini-events". For new players and characters, you can choose to have your TDM thread be your introduction thread upon acceptance or start fresh. Current players are also allowed to have in-game characters post to the TDM so long as they mark their top levels ‘Current Character.’
TDM threads can be used for spoon spending at any time by characters accepted into the game.
Playing and interacting with the TDMs will allow characters to immediately obtain canon items from homes especially weapons or other things they may have had on their person when they were pulled from their worlds! There will always be a prompt that provides some sort of "reward" to characters who complete certain tasks.
🦊 New Star Children meet the Fox still in their worlds, and she brings them into the new realm of Folkmore. As you follow her, your body begins to change and new characteristics emerge. These may stay for a while, or perhaps they will hide away after. And during all of this, the Fox explains to you where you will be going: to Folkmore.
and then... you fall like a shooting star, falling to the land in a burst of starlight.
🦊 Experienced Star Children are already familiar with this time of the month. There are shooting stars all across the sky, and some fall to the land, which means the Fox has brought new arrivals. These newly arrived Star Children will face some tests, but Thirteen wants the more seasoned residents to participate as well.
Perhaps you follow the falling stars on your own, or perhaps the Fox simply teleports you there, but it appears you too will be part of this.
Content Warnings: Power Nullification, Potential Kidnapping, Potential Animal Spirit Harm
The island of Never Fade can no longer be seen in the sky from elsewhere in Folkmore, enclosed within a large purple tinted cloud. Within that cloud, the island is under water—a dreamy purple underwater that all Star Children can breath in if they breath and function in if they function on electricity, so on and so forth. It causes no more difficulties than reduced visibility and greater effort to walk. It's even possible to swim underneath the island, so long as Star Children make sure to make landfall before they get too exhausted and… well… fall.

It causes no more difficulties than reduced visibility and greater effort to walk. It's even possible to swim underneath the island, so long as Star Children make sure to make landfall before they get too exhausted and… well… fall.
Friendnapped
The purple water has streaks of silver shot throughout it. Beware, these silver streaks neutralize powers, canon and role abilities alike, for at least an hour. A neutralized Legend won't be able to sense others in danger. A neutralized Myth won't sense danger coming. A neutralized Familiar won't be able to shapeshift to help others. That may set of a danger alarm but not any spidey-sense. These silver streaks are harbingers of spirits recently returned to Folkmore thanks to donations at the Shattered Spoon Shrine: lonely sharks.
The source of the silver streaks in the water, these silver gray sharks swim up and gently bite people. These bites make people go instantly limp but otherwise don't do any damage. They won't even break the skin. Once limp, the lonely sharks take theirpreynew best friends down to a cave or grotto off the underside of Never Fade. These caves are full of silver water, saturated by the magic of lonely sharks, and the entrances are covered by a thin silver barrier that prevents Star Children from leaving. That means should a Star Child track down where someone is being kept, should they enter its home, they too will be trapped there.
Being held by the lonely sharks isn't the worst experience. These spirits will try to please their new friends, giving them their favorite foods and perhaps even an item from home. This may even be a weapon or magical item. Mind, the magic of these items will be neutralized in the shark's cave. It is possible to fight a lonely shark, even to kill one, but that will only be a temporary measure. Star Children will remain trapped and have to wait for the lonely shark to revive—with even more golden cracks than before. In the end, the only way to escape are hugs, cuddles, and other measures of friendship. Once all the golden cracks have thinned and disappeared, Star Children can leave.
Spread the Love
By the time mid-March comes around, most of the lonely sharks have been fully healed and no longer kidnap Star Children. Instead they swim the None of the Above tunnels below the island's surface, where they provide guidance to Star Children who ask them how to get somewhere. If Star Children have nowhere particular in mind, the lonely sharks encourage Star Children to make their way toward the Shattered Spoon Shrine.
The lonely sharks still create silver streaks in the water that neutralize powers, but they will accompany Star Children and warn them of some of the dangers. When voices call their names, the sharks will snuggle up against Star Children to provide comfort. They're devoted to helping Star Children reach the shrine. Once there, they will encourage the Star Children to donate Lore to one of the broken spoons there, each spoon representing spirits who have left, spirits who became shells of themselves from lack of lore, or ghosts.
Star Children who donate Lore will find their companion lonely shark presenting them with an item from home. This may even be a weapon or magical item. Mind, the magic will be neutralized until the Star Child has spent at least an hour away from the silvery water lonely sharks create. Lonely sharks will happily spend as much time with Star Children as they're willing but will show the way back to the surface either via LIM (Lavender Institute of the Mind) or the None of the Above tunnels.
- Never Fade is underwater within a cloud.
- Silver streaks in the water neutralize powers, both canon and Role based.
- Lonely sharks kidnap Star Children and take them to caves on the underside of Never Fade.
- Star Children who find those caves are trapped too.
- Escape by hugs, cuddles, and being friends.
- By the second month, most lonely sharks are healed and found in the tunnels.
- Lonely sharks guide Star Children to the Shattered Spoon Shrine to donate Lore to help others.
- Either when captive or once donating Lore, lonely sharks will give Star Children an item from home.
Content Warnings: Forced Relocation, Potential Secret Revelation, Potential Coerced Physical Intimacy
With the wide range of Star Children from many different worlds, sharing similarities, it's no surprise when moments of deja vu happen. That sense of the familiar with the new, the sense of something that happened before without quite being able to place it… or perhaps it being impossible. Regardless, when that connective moment happens, the Star Children involved are transported to a windmill home from the Cloud Colonies. They land together on a couch before a large television with all the makings of a movie night. There could be wine and cheese. There could be soda and popcorn. There could be tea or other hot beverages. There's a cozy blanket (only one). The movie has already been selected, and it starts playing.

That sense of the familiar with the new, the sense of something that happened before without quite being able to place it… or perhaps it being impossible. There could be tea or other hot beverages. There's a cozy blanket (only one). The movie has already been selected, and it starts playing.
Headliner
The movie is roughly based off one of the Star Children's lives, specifically for the Star Child that experience deja vu and triggered this experience. Regardless of the moment of deja vu, the plot of the movie is based off of some real or potential relationship—romantic or queer platonic—in their life. That Star Child can recognize some similarities immediately. If they had any doubts, they get a text message on their relic as the movie starts:
You need to get closer with your companion(s). You can either talk about what happened (or didn't) or not talk wink wink about it with them. The choice is yours (and theirs)! Have fun!
It's possible to ignore the message, at least for a while. The longer the movie plays, the more apparent it becomes that it's based off that Star Child. The starring character's clothes will change to resemble theirs. The cadence of their voice will shift to imitate theirs. Their facial features will shift. These changes will become more and more heavy handed as the movie goes on until even the most clueless companion will have real trouble not picking up on it. It may get harder and harder to distract them from talking about it! There's no pause button, and the only way to mute the movie is to *ahem* distract themselves from it until it becomes an indistinct background murmur.
Remake
If any Star Children thought this experience might have been a Valentine's Day prank, they'll be poorly mistaken come mid-March when it continues with a twist. The movie less closely resembles any one Star Child's life (whew?)… because it blends the lives of all those present together into a new story. One character is based off each Star Child, and it fits the other Star Child into the role of someone who was or could have been emotionally and/or physically intimate with them. If they had any doubts, each Star child gets a text message on their relic as the movie starts:
You need to get closer with your companion(s). You can either talk about what happened (or didn't) or not talk wink wink about it with them. The choice is yours (and theirs)! Have fun!
Not only does each Star Child have to decide what approach they want to take, but the other Star Child may pick up on what they're putting down! One Star Child may want to talk it out, but the other one desperately doesn't. Oh noes, how shall it be resolved? Well, the longer it takes, the more clearly the film demonstrates one way they could resolve it—a fictionalized ending, happy or sad or bittersweet or anything else, between the characters as they more closely resemble those watching them on the sofa. No one's free until they have a heart to heart or a something to something else. Any physical intimacy can do.
- Experience a moment of deja vu and get transported to a cozy living room in a Cloud Colony windmill.
- For the first month, the 'host' Star Child gets a text letting them know to get intimate—emotionally or physically.
- For the second month, all Star Children get that text.
- For the first month, the movie is based on the 'host' Star Child's experiences, what did or could have happened. As the movie progresses, it becomes more and more obvious that's the case.
- For the second month, the movie is a story blending Star Children's experiences together. That too will become more obvious over time.
- Some form of intimacy is the only way out!
Boba Fett | Star Wars: Legends | Myth
[ Out of all the outcomes young Boba Fett could have imagined of his first ever bounty hunting contract, this certainly was not one of them.
To be fair, it’s parsecs better than any of the worst—better than being shot, fed to Jabba’s pit beasts, or worse still, becoming yet another of his target’s slaves. Even so, Boba isn’t so sure that this is what he should have chosen. In fact, he’s not so sure it had been his choice at all.
The thought prickles inside him as he picks himself up out of the small crater his “landing” had left in a soft green hill of this new world. After the relentless heat and bone-dry dust of Tatooine, the lushness of his current surroundings is almost dizzying. Where is this place? The Fox had called it Folkmore, but is that a planet? A solar system? And what had the Fox meant when she said he was here to fulfill his potential? What is even meant to do?
Every moment since his father’s death has felt like a race against time. Find Tyrannus. Find Jabba. Don’t die. Don’t let them catch you. Fleeing and fighting, fleeing and fighting, on an unrelenting loop. Now, in this strange new place with nothing to flee from (yet) and nothing to fight (yet), Boba finds that he has no idea what to do next….
So he picks a direction. And he starts walking. Maybe he doesn’t know what to do—but he knows he cannot stop.
He cuts a strange figure against the verdant hills behind him: a small figure in a blue cadets’ uniform, face hidden behind the T-shaped visor of a silver-and-blue Mandalorian battle helmet. And there is more strangeness still for any who come close enough to notice: one, a burnt, chemical smell lingering about him that an experienced nose might place as spent explosives. And two, his fingers, though he hasn’t noticed yet, tipped with blackened claws—a Myth in the making. ]
ii. sharknapped
[ It really is unfortunate that the shark spirit had chosen Boba as its new best friend—unfortunate for the shark, that is.
Boba keeps a vigil at the mouth of the cave where he’s imprisoned, watching the creature as it swims back and forth in distressed circles just outside. Bad enough that its “new best friend” had immediately set about trying to claw it to ribbons the second he’d been able to move again; now, its charge is refusing to eat. There’s a thick slice of what looks like dense, syrup-y cake lying untouched just past the silver barrier where the shark had managed to chuck it while avoiding another onslaught of small black claws. The shark hadn’t picked wrongly; uj cake is one of Boba’s favorite foods—which unfortunately means that the boy is all the more suspicious. How had the creature known? And where could it possibly have found a slice on this strange planet of all places?
The shark, meanwhile, worries itself in circles, the newly-scratched gashes in its flanks flashing as it turns about. To any approaching Legends, it may be difficult to tell whose distress had brought them here: the shark’s or the boy’s. ]
Sharknapped
What… is happening?
[This said to no one or anything that is willing to answer. The red head looking around as she is able to start moving again. The reason for not having a helmet is perhaps obvious due to a pair of curved horns mounted below her ears and framing her scaly face. The look resembling a mythosaur. Her gaze soon focuses on the other person that’s here.]
Who are you?
no subject
His own armor situation is the inverse of hers: only a helmet atop his head, with a simple cadet's uniform rather than armor below the neck. Beneath his visor, his eyes shift to her face—to the mythosaur-like horns protruding from her jaw. Impressive as they are, Boba is silently grateful that his own changes have allowed him to still wear a helmet.
There's a slight pause when she asks who he is—the past few months spent on the run have made him wary of just giving information away. But she's another Mandalorian, right? Maybe she's not guaranteed to be trustworthy—but she does have better odds than most. ]
My name is Boba, [ he answers. And then, more urgently: ] Do you have anything that might be able to break through this barrier? [ He motions to the shimmering silver membrane penning them into the cave. He eyes her for weapons. ] It doesn't look that strong, but I haven't been able to tear through it.
[ As far as he's concerned, introductions can come later. First things first: not getting eaten by paralyzing, man-eating fish. ]
no subject
Though unfortunately for Boba, it will become clear that she’s unarmed. The holsters on her hips are woefully empty and have been for some time. Every weapon she has on her before coming to Folkmore had been removed in the world before.
Still, her gaze turns upward to study the membrane.]
No, I don’t.
[The shark that pulled her in then swims around her. It bumps gently against her, causing the Mandalorian’s attention to shift towards another slice of uj cake that has mysteriously appeared. Confused, she looks towards Boba’s untouched slice and then back to hers.]
Are they trying to feed us?
no subject
The shark that had brought her in swims in eager circles around her, dropping a dark, dense mass from its jaws. It's... another slice of uj cake? ]
I think so. Maybe they want to fatten us up. [ Boba's clawed fingers flex at his sides, ready to lunge at the shark if it makes any hostile movements towards either of them. He's never had claws before, but he's already decided that he quite likes them. It's nice, always having a weapon on-hand.
Boba's own shark, seeing its new friend not immediately try to eviscerate its compatriot, cautiously enters the cave as well. It approaches Boba slowly, like it's trying not to startle him. Boba backs away, claws at the ready. ]
I think... I think they're trying to get us to trust them, [ he says, eyes darting between the two sharks. From the way he's trying to keep his distance—it's not working. ]
no subject
The shark wiggles excitedly when she picks it up and, watching it carefully, takes a tentative bite. It tastes good, as it should. Was she taking a risk? Probably. But after months of being around Pokemon in another world, she had a feeling these creatures were not going to hurt them. Surely they would have done so by now.
Eating the rest of the slice, Bo-Katan is started when the shark rushes in and… snuggles up against her? She blinks and then tentatively pets the creature, which seems to please it even more.]
I think… they just want to be loved.
no subject
His own shark circles closer, nudging hopefully at him with its nose in a bid for affection. Boba shoves it away. ]
No, [ he tells it firmly. ] Let me go, and then I'll be your friend. And let her go, too. [ He points to the woman, then at himself, then at the exit to the cave, still veiled in silver. ] Understand?
[ The shark, evidently, does not understand. It just keeps staring up at him with those big, sad, black eyes. Then, its fins droop, and it turns and swims morosely away, back out of the cave.
Boba absolutely does not not feel bad about it. He doesn't. He watches it go and bites hard at the inside of his cheek to quit himself from worrying about how much he's not feeling and turns back towards the woman and her shark. At least now there's only one of them to deal with. ]
I'm watching you, [ he mutters to the shark as it continues to cuddle up to the other Mandalorian. ] Don't try anything.
no subject
[She knows she’s not. Bo-Katan doubts the bite even drew any blood. Just that temporary paralysis that’s now gone.
Boba is then shooing away his shark. By the time he looks back to her, Bo-Katan is giving hers belly rubs. The shark practically acting like a dog as it waves its pectoral fins in glee.
It then slips away from her, does another circle and darts away. The cracks on its skin having become noticeably thinner.]
I haven’t been here long, but from what I know, the point is to interact with the world and each other.
[Just as she says that her shark comes back and drops something in her lap. This time it isn’t food. Bo-Katan picks it up and can only stare as it’s one of her blaster pistols.]
no subject
[ It's a bit of a grudging admission. Sure, he's not hurt, but it's the principle of the thing, really. Biting and paralyzing someone aren't things you do when you want to make friends. Still, Boba notices when the woman's attentions seem to heal the shark, the cracks in its skin slowly beginning to seal. Perhaps... perhaps that's why the sharks brought them here? So that they'd help heal their wounds?
He notices even more when her shark returns and deposits a blaster pistol in her lap. It seems their help isn't going unpaid, either. And if the sharks are willing to deliver them weapons of all things, maybe their intentions truly aren't hostile. After all, it would be pretty stupid of the sharks to arm prisoners they only mean to eat later.
Just as Boba thinks this, his own shark returns, something clutched in its own jaws as well. This time, Boba holds his hand out for it. He's still a little wary, but he figures the woman probably knows the rules of this world better than him. And if there's the promise of a reward...
The shark drops its gift into his hand: not a weapon, but a small black book, unadorned and without title. Boba recognizes it at once, and with a short, sharp intake of breath, pulls it close to himself, holding it tightly. Disbelief and gratitude war briefly in his chest. Part of him immediately suspects that it's a trick, that the book is some kind of illusion meant to get him to lower his guard. But it feels solid as he holds it in his hands and though he's not willing to open it in front of a stranger, the unmarked cover looks just the same as it had last he'd seen it. Still, he turns it over in his hands a few times just to be sure before he looks up at his shark again. ]
Um. Thank you, [ he says, a touch awkwardly. The creature seems encouraged by this response and comes closer again. This time, Boba lets it, cautiously reaching out to rub the top of its head. The creature presses itself into the touch, seemingly overjoyed. Boba tilts his head slightly towards the woman. ]
So... does this kind of thing happen a lot here?
no subject
All the while, she's watching Boba out of the corner of her eye. A small smile coming to her lips as he receives something that's clearly important to him. That being enough to finally give his shark a chance. Bo-Katan has no idea what is so special about that little book, but she won't pry.]
I haven't been here long enough to know for myself, but in the world I was in before this one, strange things did tend to happen every now and then. I expect it will be the same here.
[There's a pause from her as she gives the shark more attention, the cracks in its skin slowly starting to disappear.]
My name is Bo-Katan.
no subject
Still, for all its strangeness, it seems that their current situation isn't as dire as Boba had initially feared, at least for now. Tentatively, he lowers himself to sit on the cave floor, though he moves as if he expects to need to spring up again at any moment. Ever-helpful, his shark swims over to his untouched slice of uj cake and brings it over to him, dropping it in his lap. Boba is hungry—the days in which he's managed to eat three square meals over the past few weeks have been few and far between—but he's still reluctant to eat at this very moment. He'll wait until it feels a bit safer to do so.
He stows the uj cake in one of his pockets for now. Wryly, he wonders if the sharks simply happened to have a surplus of the stuff. Maybe that's why they seem to have gone exclusively after Mandalorians? ]
Are there many more of us in this world? [ he asks the woman. ] Mandalorians, I mean.

Sharknapped
The shark passes by another shark and dumps his captive inside a cave. Yellow eyes dart over to the boy.]
They got you too, hm?
no subject
Ugh! [ He growls in frustration, glaring out of the cave where his own shark continues to patrol. ] I hate these things. [ Belatedly, he looks back at the sharks' newest catch—a man with red skin and yellow eyes. Boba can't quite place his species, but that's currently the least of his concerns. ]
Those creatures can move through the mouth of the cave, but we can't. If we could catch one of them, maybe we could use it to slip out.
[ He has no time for small talk, apparently. Right now, all of his focus is on finding a way to escape as quickly and efficiently as possible. ]
no subject
[Feeling starts returning to his body and Imperius sits up. Reaching his hand out, he tries using the Force to move a nearby rock, but to no avail. The thing doesn't even wiggle.]
And I suddenly can't use the Force. Beautiful.
no subject
The Force? [ He fights to keep his voice neutral, to not betray any of the instinctive fear and anger that the word sparks within him. It's not much use, though, not when there's suddenly tension written in every line of the way he stands. ] Are you a Jedi?
no subject
Not a Jedi, no. I am Sith. I am Darth Imperius.
[He's taking a gamble, he's sure. If the kid is nervous around Jedi, then who knows how he's going to react to a Sith? He's bracing himself for a freak out.]
no subject
He doesn't relax completely but a bit of the tension does ease out of his stance. ]
Okay, [ he says, eyeing the man with newfound caution. ] Do you have anything else that might help us here? Like a lightsaber?
[ They say a lightsaber can cut through almost anything. Maybe it could even cut through the silver barrier penning them in. ]
no subject
Sadly no. My lightsaber is back in my world.
[He's felt naked without it.]
no subject
So what can you do?
[ Because thus far, all he's gotten from the man is unhelpful commentary. ]
no subject
[The shark that brought him here swims up and deposits something in front of him. A cup of tea, just like he likes it.]
Oh, thank you.
no subject
[ The man seems irritatingly unbothered by the entire situation. Boba's disgust only increases when he happily accepts a cup of tea from one of their captors. Really? He's not even going to try to fight back? ]
Do you even want to escape?
(no subject)
Sharknapped
When he finally gets some control of his body back, he promptly socks the poor shark right in the snout, sending it quickly retreating. He takes the opportunity to get to shore, dragging himself onto land, before sitting up and turning to stare at where the shark had retreated. He heaves a tired, annoyed huffy sigh. Now what?
He's not noticed the other occupant in the cave yet(blame his limited peripherals). But he's wearing full, pure, beskar. Including helmet, that he seems to be in no hurry to remove.
no subject
For his part, the Mandalorian hasn't seemed to notice Boba yet, instead staring intently at the mouth of the cave where the shark had retreated. Boba knows better than to startle a warrior who may or may not be armed. Rather than greeting or questioning him outright, he kicks at a few of the loose rocks at his feet, letting the noise alert the man that he's not alone in the cave.
Boba doesn't know much Mando'a. But he at least knows the traditional greeting.
"Su cuy'gar."
no subject
Din certainly wouldn't have made it far as a bounty hunter, if simple sounds didn't immediately alert him. So the sound of the kicked rocks gets a reaction out of him. Making him jerk and roll to crouch. His hand going back toward the hilt, until he sees what made the noise. After staring for a moment, he finally relaxes a little and rises to his feet. The greeting gets a nod from him.
"Su cuy'gar" He says in reply. Despite being raised as a Mandalorian, and around Mandalorians most of his life, he doesn't know a lot of Mando'a either. The covert had other things on their minds. But he at least knows the greeting. He doesn't recognize the helmet, but the kid's wearing what looked like apprentice suit. He must not be that old.
"How long have you been here?"
no subject
He also relaxes a bit as the man straightens up and returns his greeting. Boba's not sure whether his question is asking how long he's been in this cave or in this world, but he supposes the answer is the same either way. When he speaks, his voice is clearly youthful and marked with a distinct Concord Dawn accent.
"Not very long." He gestures to the mouth of the cave where the shark had fled. "One of those creatures brought me in here, too. There's some kind of barrier blocking the exit."
His words might be straight to the point, but beneath the concealing cover of his helmet, he's watching the man with quite a bit of curiosity. He's only ever met a small handful of other Mandalorians in his life; most of what he knows about them comes from his father's stories. He resists the urge to ask too many questions. There are more pressing concerns at the moment and besides—he doesn't want to seem like some ignorant little kid.
Still, there are more subtle ways of getting information... Beneath his helmet, Boba's eyes move to the strange hilt at the man's side.
"I haven't been able to tear through it, but maybe an actual weapon could..."
