June-July 2024 Test Drive Meme

June-July 2024 TDM
Introduction

[ TDM QuestionsJump to CommentsFull Navigation ]

This Test Drive meme is open to all.

Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Test Drive Meme! Please feel free to test drive any and all characters regardless of your intent to apply or whether you have an invite or not.

All TDMs are game canon and work like "mini-events". For new players and characters, you can choose to have your TDM thread be your introduction thread upon acceptance or start fresh. Current players are also allowed to have in-game characters post to the TDM so long as they mark their top levels ‘Current Character.’

TDM threads can be used for spoon spending at any time by characters accepted into the game.

Playing and interacting with the TDMs will allow characters to immediately obtain canon items from homes especially weapons or other things they may have had on their person when they were pulled from their worlds! There will always be a prompt that provides some sort of "reward" to characters who complete certain tasks.

Current players are always encouraged to tag new people on the TDM!

🦊 New Star Children meet the Fox still in their worlds, and she brings them into the new realm of Folkmore. As you follow her, your body begins to change and new characteristics emerge. These may stay for a while, or perhaps they will hide away after. And during all of this, the Fox explains to you where you will be going: to Folkmore.

and then... you fall like a shooting star, falling to the land in a burst of starlight.

🦊 Experienced Star Children are already familiar with this time of the month. There are shooting stars all across the sky, and some fall to the land, which means the Fox has brought new arrivals. These newly arrived Star Children will face some tests, but Thirteen wants the more seasoned residents to participate as well.

Perhaps you follow the falling stars on your own, or perhaps the Fox simply teleports you there, but it appears you too will be part of this.

[ Prompt OnePrompt Two]

Ghost Tours .
Content Warnings: Ghosts, Potential Violence, Potential Death

Summer has hit. It's hot, and nowhere is it hotter than Cruel Summer. Naturally, new Star Children arrive in Cruel Summer with no indication of which direction to go to escape, unless they're so lucky as to arrive near the Selkie River. The water provides a break, and a selkie skin will protect Star Children from the heat. Though beware the cruelty of leaving a selkie without their skin. Along with the heat, Star Children can hear whispers and the echoes of screams throughout Cruel Summer. There's no obvious source of the noises. Not the normal creatures. Not anything anyone can see.

Whether new or old Star Child, anyone lost, overheated, in need of a rest, or anything else will find a friendly spirit will find them in the sands, rock, or shores of Cruel Summer. They'll guide the way toward the huts found in Cruel Summer. These huts have changed; the huts are bigger and grow together, making them one interconnected twisting winding empty town. No one appears to live there. The wooden town is in disrepair, varying from building to building. Even so, they are cool inside, a welcome break from the summer heat.

No matter how one entered, even through the swinging doors to the saloon, that exit disappears behind Star Children. There's no turning back. The only way out is to explore the way through the buildings. This fact continues to be true building to building as exits continue to vanish. The abandoned town isn't as empty as it first seems. As Star Children explore the branching paths through the wooden structures, they see ghosts of spirits going through the paces of their lives. They're familiar to these spaces and interact with missing objects that sometimes shimmer in spirit energy.

Spirit Children may interrupt these routines to try to talk with the ghosts. Some ghostly spirits are friendly. They may interact with Star Children as though they're someone else, someone the spirits used to know. Others, like the bartender, may treat them like a new customer. Other ghosts are determined to stick to their routines and, should Star Children continue to interrupt, will attack those who disturb them.

These spirits may kill Star Children when they attack. Normal weapons won't hurt them. There are revolvers, shotguns, iron pokers, hunting knives, and other plain weapons around to grab in self-defense. Salt bullets and iron will dispel ghosts. These weapons may be grabbed at any time. However, doing so attracts the creatures in Cruel Summer. A blood red worm spitting yellow acid may break through the floor to eat or spray Star Children. An enormous coyote may leap through the window. Whether attracted by the use of weapons or passing by, any dangerous creature found in Cruel Summer seems agitated when they come near these structures and will attack them and anyone inside. They will focus especially on anyone with a stolen selkie skin.

Should Star Children die, whether to ghosts or creatures, they will not immediately return to life. Do not pass go. Instead they will haunt the ghost town for one week in the room where they were killed. Other Star Children may recognize them and work to snap them out of their routines. Yet nothing will free the Star Children's spirits before the week is through. At the end of the week, they'll come to, alive, in their bodies in the room they died in. Best get through and out of the ghost town before dying again!

A constant through these scenes are the spirits' spoons, visible somewhere in each scene. The ghost spoons are whole. Once free of the ghost town, Star Children may choose to travel to the Shattered Spoon Shrine in Never Fade to search for the broken fragments of any of these spoons. They are in such small pieces, however, that no Star Child may feed them enough Lore alone to bring the spirit back. Two or more Star Children may spend time in the Shrine creating and feeding Lore toward the spoons to heal them. It just may be enough to bring someone back.

  • Whispers, echoes of screams, etc become common throughout Cruel Summer
  • Huts become bigger, interconnected, growing together. Anyone lost, overheated, in need of something in Cruel Summer gets a friendly spirit redirecting them to these buildings
  • Buildings will still be in some state of disrepair, but like a whole twisting winding town
  • Insides are a cool respite supernatural ghost spirit air conditioning
  • Only way out is through, no turning back, as the exits disappear behind you
  • Many are friendly, but some are not. One can attempt to talk to them, but how interactive they are varies
  • Occasionally other creatures from Cruel Summer may burst in and attack
  • If a Star Child dies, rather than return to life immediately, they stay a ghost for about a week, part of the tour
Flames to Embers .
Content Warnings: Fire, Coerced Confessions

Fire! Fire across the realm! For the second half of June, wildfire burns everywhere. While it doesn’t hurt Star Children, it can reduce everything else to ash: homes, businesses, gardens, spirits. The local spirits will be in a panic and beg Star Children for help from small ice mice in Wintermute to fennec foxes in Cruel Summer. How can Star Children help? Confessions. Anything the person they are with doesn’t know. The more earnest and meaningful the better.

When wildfire erupts and spreads, Star Children may stand in or in front of an area they want to protect and confess something to another Star Child who happens to be nearby. Their neighbor? Their partner? A stranger lost in a new land? These confessions simply need to be something the other person doesn’t know to protect structures and spirits. Memories related to the confession will show in the fire. The fire will fuel these memories until they run out of energy, dying down to embers. At least in that place at that time.

Should something start to burn before someone confesses, multiple confessions are necessary to catch the wildfire’s attention and distract it from the fuel source it is feeding on. Two or more Star Children will need to make confessions whose memories are shared in the flames. Water powers can also help quell the flames, but confessions are necessary in the end.

Once July hits, the wildfires are mostly gone, only sparking up here and there on occasion. In their stead are embers. They spark in the air like fireflies and fly around Folkmore, attracted to Star Children. These embers land on Star Children and make them glow. There’s no pain. In fact, the embers provide sparks of insight into memories, situations, and other emotional dilemmas that Star Children haven’t previously understood. Talking the issue over with another Star Children provides further emotional clarity.

Spirits are welcoming to both embers and Star Children. Confessions help Folkmore grow as well. Gardens bloom in beautiful displays. Crops grow healthy and joyful. It’s even possible to hear humming from some of the vegetables and fruits. The land grows with the Star Children. Anyone who lacks a green thumb can work their way around that with confessions! Save that dying plant and grow those tomatoes.

One time that a Star Child confesses, either to wildfire or to embers, they will find a jeweled box shaped like a flame. The peak of the flame comes off to reveal the insides. Within, there is an item from home. It may even be a weapon or magical item. Larger more meaningful confessions are more likely to receive weapons. These items may even be larger than should fit in the box or its entrance. Whether the box should only hold a single ring or fill the palm of one’s hand, these items fit. Star Children also can keep the jeweled box, and this one item from home can be stored within the box. Other items too large to fit the box will not enter it. Only the one from the box.

  • Last two weeks of June, wildfire burns across Folkmore. After that, they are rare.
  • Confessions can protect or rescue buildings, land areas, and spirits.
  • Come July, embers spark across Folkmore like fireflies. They provide insight for Star Children. Talking helps.
  • Confessions help the land grow.
  • Confessions reveal a jeweled box containing an item from home.

Some combination of all of it. She's gotten soft over the last few years in many ways. Taking in a teenager to care for, becoming daredevil, restarting things with Matthew, losing him again, believing him dead and then finding him alive several months later. It had just been a whirlwind that's messed with her ability to be as guarded as she would like. That is to say, she let in people she cared about and that also makes you soft.

It'd been so long since she'd done it before. It's not that Elektra has never had loved ones previously, it'd just been a long time. Every time she gets them they're ripped form her hands, or she's ripped from them, make to forget, made to be a weapon. It's just never then dropped in a conversation with someone who seems kind, who reminds her in some ways of Matthew. This Matt is lovely, really, and seems frustrated enough himself that it came out before she could judge too much.

She bites back a comment about Lore and how it was a dumb name for such a thing and truly considers everything he's saying.

"You're telling me we're in someone's mystical fairy tail and we're supposed to just go about time talking to people?" her voice is questioning and there's a tone that suggets she might not love talking to people, even if this conversation with Matt has gone fairly fluidly enough. It's not that Elektra doesn't like talking, it's mostly just that she doesn't like a lot of people. She finds them frustrating and difficult to put up with.

"Not always. There are Trials too. Sometimes they're dangerous. I had to fight off ice spirits when I first arrived. Sometimes you just eat weird magical food." He gestures with a hand to the landscape around them which is somewhat boring in his senses. "Sometimes, you're dropped in a desert and have to help people find their way to civilization though I feel some vibrations deep down. There might be creatures down there."

It's hard to say because sand just does not transmit vibrations well. Matt might do better if he pressed his hands to the sand or took off his shoes and felt through his feet.

"I've spent a lot of time in the library looking for anything like a history or a legal system." His tone continues to be frustrated. "And there's nothing. It's all hidden."

He tilts his head in her direction. "There is a place here called Exile. It's supposed to be very dangerous. If I was hiding something from the people I kidnapped to gain power off of, I would hide it there but I haven't been able to explore far."

Because she is Elektra he's giving her everything he knows. Unlike how little he's talked to Natasha or Steve or anyone else he's met in this world.

It's interesting and she's taking notes in her head at the things he's sharing. One thing in particular catches in her ears and worms though and that's Exile. He mentions he hasn't been able to explore it much and it's interesting.

"Is your inability to explore far in that place due to it's level of danger or...?" she lets the question trail off her lips, interesting to see what the answer is. Perhaps it's just completely unreachable, or too dangerous for even him, or some combination.

She doubts it's as simple as something he's afraid of. Sure, he's not her Matthew, but she can't imagine any Matthew being simply too afraid with something. All versions of him surely are 'The Man without Fear' in her eyes.

"Can you at least give me some good news that there might not be any ninjas?" She adds with a joking tone. Surely there's got to be a some good news somewhere in this mess of a world.

"It's due to the fact no one knows about my secret. If I go wandering around Exile by myself and people find out they're going to ask a lot of questions." Almost everyone in Folkmore believes he's just a blind lawyer trying to find a way to practice law in a lawless place. Lawless in this case meaning no standing legal system. There's an incredible lack of crime and violence for a place with no justice system.

"The place itself forces you out too. It's magic." He shrugs. "That's a little hard to punch in the face."

Matt's not afraid of exploring the place. He's afraid of what he always is: someone knowing him. She's one of the new people who can know him. Who he's let know him. Even though she's not his Elektra he doubts there are any things about him that she doesn't really know already.

He chuckles. "No ninjas unless you count the Black Widow as a ninja over a spy. There's a lot of super heroes actually. I met Captain America and had Thai with him."

Which is wild to say out loud.

Well, that's certainly the obvious answer. Which speaks volumes to how much time Elektra spends with Daredevil back home as opposed to Matthew Murdock. It certainly makes sense although she's suddenly just how aware she is standing in the middle of the desert in her own Daredevil costume.

"I assume you either got taken in something more practical than mid battle attire or it isn't too hard to find clothes around here?" She asks carefully. She doesn't want him to think she's prying into his life, or going to bother him about such a thing. Elektra is fiercely independent she doesn't want anyone to think she'd be dependent on someone.

The way he speaks about a Black Widow and Captain America peaks her interest incredibly though. She turns to give him a look while they walk clearly studying his face.

"Which Widow? Romanova? Are those two not your friends back home?" she asks. Maybe he simply meant Yelena. The Captain America thing is still a little weird though.

"I was in a suit," he says with a small chuckle. "The other suit is at home. Though I could ask for it here. I... haven't yet."

And he's not sure if he will. That would make hiding things from certain people very difficult.

"Uh, no, no I'm not friends with the Avengers." Matt shakes his head. He seems a little stunned by the idea that he could be friends with them and that they know his secret. Steve Rogers is a really nice guy but Matt doesn't want to tell him about his senses.

"The only friends I have that know about what I can do are Foggy, Karen, and a loose group called the Defenders." He's not sure if she'll know the name but he's curious to see if she does.

She files away the information carefully. It's not like she'd be blabbing anything about Matt or Daredevil to anyone anyways. Almost no one in her world knows who he is anymore anyways thanks to the purple children but if she'd met someone like Natasha she might have just assumed she knew. Apparently things continued to get even different though.

Him mentioning Karen just sends all of that home like a punch in the gut, and Elektra didn't even like Karen but she knew what she was to Matthew in her world. Hopefully this one won't have to deal with the same pain.

"Danny Rand is possibly one of the most annoying people I've ever had to fight with," she says though there's a fondness behind her words. Of course she's done other things then fight, but when Danny is throwing quips at you and you're fighting it's a special kind of annoying.

"Jessica and Luke are much cooler. Unless Defenders are different there?" she asks curiously.
sine_metu: ([matt] collar)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-15 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Believe it or not, Matt trusts Elektra won't tell anyone his secret. She's not his Elektra but in all the years they've known each other, known so much about each other, Elektra has never once leveraged knowing his secret to get him to do what she wants.

This Elektra is probably the same. Close enough that Matt is willing to trust her. There are plenty of ways for Elektra to hurt him that doesn't involve revealing his secret.

"No, that's them." He tilts his head slightly. "Your Danny sounds a little different though."

Annoying is not what fighting with Danny is like. Getting him to think through a battle plan is frustrating, which is saying something given Matt's struggle with his temper.

"I guess the other me runs in different circles than I do."
saiqueen: (the good fight)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-15 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Different circles is a funny way of putting it because it feels like every time Elektra comes around those circles are new. It probably says something about Matthew, and how difficult he is but if her time as Daredevil has taught her anything it is that it's tough to do and keep relationships.

"Maybe, his circles were always changing. Except for Nelson," Elektra's pretty sure that Matt loves Foggy more then anything in the world, even when they were completely toxic to each other in some ways. Hell, he'd gone to fight the Devil just to get Foggy back.

She glances over at him when she mentions Foggy to read his face. Look for a sign of a smile or something similar trying to read his reactions as best she could for a strange. She's excellent at reading faces, body language but it's still different when it's someone new vs someone you've known for more then a decade.

"Tell me, Matt. Do you have any allies here?" It's a question powered by curiosity. Wondering if she can maybe get information on who he might trust, or distrust. She's pretty sure that a lawyer with a secret is still great a reading people and she will take his judgements into consideration.
sine_metu: feel free to steal ([foggy] avocados)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-15 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh good. He has Foggy." Matt smiles. That's the person he misses the most here. For years Foggy has been a constant presence in his life. Even when they were fighting he could listen and find Foggy's heartbeat. The lack of it thunders in Matt's ears sometimes.

But he also doesn't know what he'd do if Foggy showed up here. Someone like Foggy shouldn't have to face these Trials. They weren't fair and Foggy didn't know how to fight. He would hate him in forced danger all the time.

"Uh, I don't know," he says and rubs a hand against the back of his neck. "I mean, everyone I've met has been incredibly helpful. I'm sure if I asked for help lots of people would volunteer but none of them know what I can really do. They just think I'm a dorky lawyer with ADA complaints about this place."

He blows out a breath. "Captain Rogers would absolutely help no matter what. I don't know what to make of Natasha. She suspects there's more to me but she's promised to keep that to herself. I've met a Spiderman from a different universe and he'd help."
saiqueen: (silver and cold)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-15 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Something about his smile infectious and she finds herself smiling as she watches him. It's an odd thing, but she finds the relief she sees on him when he mentions Foggy to be quite calming.

"Surely dorky is not something anyone could ever think of you as," she says rather bluntly. Strange in some ways absolutely, but as far as Elektra can tell this Matt Murdock is smart, capable and handsome and typically any two of those three should be keeping you out of the 'dork' label.

"In my world Romanova and I can be a lot alike. We even have been known to have the same taste in men," she says as if to give an explanation of why Matt has a hard time getting a read on Natasha. She doesn't know if this is the Natasha from her world or somewhere else, but it's hard to imagine her as anything but a spy and she's acutely aware that people find her hard to read and understand themselves.

The other two aren't surprising, although her idea of help and Matt's may be different on any given day. She was just recently arrested by the Avengers back home and it's hard to shrug that off even if she's still running around as Daredevil. It'd all worked out in the end, and they didn't understand that entire situation, but Elektra generally likes to work alone when she can. It's just more recently she's known that's not possible for everything. You cant save everyone who needs saving as a single person.
sine_metu: ([matt] amused)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-15 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He shrugs. "I've been trying to get them to think that about me. That I'm just a soft hearted lawyer who loves the law and believes in helping people. I spend a lot of time at the library. Make jokes about my blindness."

He has well and truly played up his dorky side, his civilian side. Only one person has really caught a glimpse of the Devil under his skin. Natasha's the only one who's seen him fight. Everyone else only knows what he's wanted them to see.

"Natasha spells it differently." Matt's pretty sure anyone would be able to pick up the different pronunciations. "I should say the name she gave me is said differently. Natasha Romanoff. She's dead in my world, sacrificed herself to save it. And I don't think she likes me as much as you do."

Because that's something Matt can pick up on. Elektra, this Elektra, is at least fond of him. Even though he's not her Matthew.
saiqueen: (I have this some of the time)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-15 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"A bold assumption Mr. Murdock," she says jokingly at the idea that she likes him any amount. She files away the bit about Natasha for further use somewhere else but continues. It's true, she likes him in some ways, but she's not quite willing to admit that to herself yet.

"I trust you perhaps. Like is a strong word though, and I like so very few people," in her own world anyways. Though it hadn't always been that way. There was a time when she had friends again, back when she was putting her life back together once she'd been reborn again. Mac, Kon, Logan and Nina - back before they'd killed Nina and she stopped liking people again. Elektra liking people just has a tendency to lead to their deaths.

"Do all those books at the library not tell you that Romanoff is the anglicization of Romanov or Romanova?" she asks playfully. She's not actually judging him for it, it's simply teasing. She wonders about a library full of brail books, and how that might work. Were they just for Matt or were there many people here visually impaired.

"What are you looking for in the books?"
sine_metu: ([matt] back)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"When have I done anything else?" he says with a slightly cocky grin. Come on, he can't really be humble in another universe can he? Well, maybe as a priest he is. Matt's a lawyer and all lawyers are cocky.

"There's no legal system here." A fact Matt sounds slightly frustrated by. "But there's no crime either. I've been looking for information on some sort of informal system used by the local spirits but there's nothing so far."

It's been a fruitless search but he persists. It gives him something to do and he hopes to find out more about the world he's become stuck in.

"According to lots of people I can just got talk to Thirteen, the spirit who runs this place, but whether she listens or not is fifty-fifty. I feel like I could argue better for the release of everyone here if I know the rules of the game." Of course that's Matt's solution. He can't punch Thirteen into submission. He doubts he'd even get close using his fists even if he really wants to punch that fox spirit.
saiqueen: (brand new woman)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-16 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Of course that's what he's looking into, her faces goes a little soft and amused at it. Matt Murdock is a beautiful naïve fool. Kidnapped into a world for some unknown beings ulterior motives and he desires to argue his way out of it.

"Do you think that the world needs a legal system or a religious one to keep people out of trouble?" It's a question that she's genuinely asking. Her own Matthew has struggled with the idea of both in times and she'd not dare assume anything about what Matt may think of these things.

The idea that such a spirit would have some sort of rules that could be bent and argue is interesting. It's not something Elektra would assume, but when she thinks back to old folk stories were people not constantly tricking demons and such by catching them off guard in all sorts of societies.

"I currently have a vendetta against books with ancient secrets myself, but if there's something you need to access without giving yourself away, you may ask." It's worded in a funny way, as if she's giving him permission to ask, not a promise. She doesn't fully like to commit to something until she knows the details.

sine_metu: ([matt] collar)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-16 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"The spirits who live here might be under Thirteen's control so they don't cause problems," he says with some seriousness. "But what's to stop those of us who are brought here? I could pick extreme examples. Loki. Ultron. But a legal system didn't stop them. To some people, though, no legal system, no punishment, they might... give in to temptation."

A legal system doesn't stop Matt from being Daredevil though he tried. He tried for a long time and it didn't help. He gave into temptation. He will give in to temptation here, he's sure, but it won't be the temptation to punch bad guys. It'll be something else to get the restless anger out.

"People who never thought about crime before might try." He shrugs. "I don't know but the reason why there's no legal system here will tell me more about the person who runs the place."

And it gives Matt something to do. He really needs that. Without work and Daredevil he's going stir crazy.
saiqueen: (you keep on teasing)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-16 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Loki and Ultron are perhaps the most random combination of people to cause a mess that Elektra was not expecting. Hank Pym's mess and the Norse God of Mischief weren't exactly regular attractions in the life of an assassin. Of course, it's hard to know what kind of people are here, and surely there's other bad people from other worlds as well.

Who is to say that she wasn't brought here as one of those 'bad people' lord knows she's been accused of it enough.

"Do you really think that the average person is constantly tempted to do bad things and hurt people?" It shouldn't surprise her. The idea that the Catholic lawyer would suggest such an idea but Elektra likes to believe that average people are good and well, laws don't stop people on the best of days.

"Besides, it sounds like you've already met a lot of people who can put on the costume and help if it were to happen. To watch over people if they don't fully realize it?" It amuses her, describing it like some sort of nanny state.
sine_metu: ([matt] altar)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
This whole place is a random combination of different people from different universes. The 'bad guys' Matt can list off are also going to be random.

"What? Too Catholic?" He's aware of how he sounds and he's aware of why he thinks the way he does. The religion is part of him that he can't shed. He doesn't want to shed it either. "No, I don't think the average person wants to do these things. I think some people do and might give in."

The temptation for evil hits everyone. Matt remembers wanting to kill Fisk. The evil that lurked within his temper and how it could swallow him whole.

"It's just something to think about."
saiqueen: (The martyr is meaningless)

[personal profile] saiqueen 2024-06-16 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Well then, you better watch out for women with snakes, I hear they can lead to all sorts of problems," she jokes but she actually takes what he's mentioning to heart and considers how any of this might work with her extremely limited information that she has from him.

"I suppose it could be an illusion of free will. Something mystical or magical or however you wanna call it holding on to the control of everyone to keep it from happening?" She offers with a shrug.

"Like how The Hand controls people but with more slack on a leash. Perhaps you're able to make complete free choices up until a certain point? Unless you've seen people do bad things here?" The question is important because she doesn't actually know with what limits they're playing with. Or what things this Thirteen may know about or not. Perhaps only certain things they frown upon are off limits, surly morality is different in every world.
sine_metu: ([matt] confession)

[personal profile] sine_metu 2024-06-16 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been wondering about that." Matt thinks it's pretty obvious this place is full of magic. Even blind and unable to sense more magic Matt's heard enough and experienced enough in his short time to understand magic ran through every single inch of this place.

"I haven't yet," he admits, "I've been going out at night and listening. Besides the usual normal life drama and little insults, no one's behaved like a criminal."

There are some real assholes though.

"I've heard of Trials that can make people into monsters. In the past we've had to fight each other according to people who have ben here for two years. I haven't experienced much." Matt's braced for the worst though. He knows it'll show up eventually. His secret will get shared whether he wants it to or not.

Matt dreads that moment.
saiqueen: (And I am flawed)

Her friends turning to monsters feels like an unfortunate side effect of Elektra's life. Of curse she expects it's all a very different style, but well, dealing with the Hand over the years has lead to a mess of it. She can't help but think about Logan specifically when that's mentioned.

"Can I ask you something, Matt?" She asks the question but doesn't actually give him any time to answer that. Instead of moving on directly to the question. It's personal, and if he doesn't answer it she won't hold it against him but the more he talks about things she can't help but think it.

"You came to a new world, where you knew no one. What made you choose to be Matt Murdock here? Why not just be Daredevil?" When she ask that it's the first time either of them have said the name out loud and it feels weird to say here in broad daylight but of course there's no anyone around. Unless there's someone somewhat near with Matt's level of hearing it's fine.

Her mind dances with thoughts of her own Matthew and all of the times he tried to separate and combine his identity. Most recently just leaving Matthew Murdock assumed dead and living as Daredevil, it hadn't exactly worked either though. But in her mind, surely being a highly effective person in a mask of some sort even if it's a piece of cloth over your face seems easier to Elektra.

"I..." Matt frowns, hesitating in his answer.

"When people find out just how much I hear and can pick up from them they see it as an invasion of privacy. Like I'm cheating. They don't like it. I didn't want... without Foggy here I didn't want to end up alone." Matt wouldn't tell anyone besides Elektra something like that. She's not even his Elektra and he still feels like he can tell her that without giving up something of himself along the way.

Yes, he's also thought about how when people find out about his senses it will bite him in the ass. They'll feel betrayed and lied to but this is how Matt is most comfortable living in the world.

"It's what I chose. It's the side of myself I think most people will like too." He looks towards her. "People like you are rare."

It's not surprising. Not really though she appreciates the information. The more she learns of this Matt the more she can build in her head to construct things about him, to understand him. There is so very few people Elektra trusts in her own world anymore, that even if this isn't her Matt, he's still likely more trustable then a lot of people back home.

There's something kind about the way he says 'people like you are rare' that catches her off guard. He's soft around the edges in ways she wouldn't expect. Kind is probably a better word for it.

"It does take a bit to get used to being told you're lying based on your heart rate," she says giving him a smile. She'd been the first person to know in her world about any of it, back when Matt was soft and they were simply a couple of dumb college kids in love.

The suggestion that she prefers Daredevil to Matt Murdock isn't wrong when he makes it. Elektra finds the whole law thing dreadfully boring. She couldn't imagine wanting to spend any amount of time behind desks herself, although that wasn't always the case. When she was young, before everything she was a serious student.

"And here, their secrets are revealed too often. A person who can do it all the time. I don't see it going over well." Matt has been told many times by many people that this place will take secrets from him. They should feel like a normal conversation is a normal conversation.

In some ways it's also easier being Matt though he does miss being Daredevil. He doesn't know what to do with all his free time at night. His anger is restless underneath his skin. He really should find a gym to train in at night when no one can see him.

"We're getting closer to the train station," he says as he adjusts their course. He can hear the station and the little town around it. "We can take it to Epiphany and if you want get some new clothes."

Because he can tell she's in some sort of combat uniform from the sound of the fabric moving as she walks. Unless she wants to look like a ninja. People may have shown up in stranger clothing.

Though Elektra's heart rate has been fairly steady this whole time it climbs when Matt mentions that they place can pull their secrets from them. It's not even that she's particularly ashamed or secretive. Rather, the idea that they won't be controlled or expected that is the fear. She's done a good job back home, of rehabilitating her image even though that wasn't the purpose.

She's afraid of being judged, not by strangers particularly, but by anyone who she may grow close to. Perhaps that's just another reason to keep everyone at arms length. The elevation in heartrate only lasts a moment though as she calms it, a trick she obviously learned from too much time with her own Matthew.

"That would be great, I am in my work gear. A whole 'DD' on the front and everything." It's an explanation because it doesn't feel fair to not share information with Matt that he would otherwise have if he was sighted. An old habit she'd formed over the years that clearly extended the courtesy to this one.
