June-July 2024 Test Drive Meme

June-July 2024 TDM
Introduction

[ TDM QuestionsJump to CommentsFull Navigation ]

This Test Drive meme is open to all.

Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Test Drive Meme! Please feel free to test drive any and all characters regardless of your intent to apply or whether you have an invite or not.

All TDMs are game canon and work like "mini-events". For new players and characters, you can choose to have your TDM thread be your introduction thread upon acceptance or start fresh. Current players are also allowed to have in-game characters post to the TDM so long as they mark their top levels ‘Current Character.’

TDM threads can be used for spoon spending at any time by characters accepted into the game.

Playing and interacting with the TDMs will allow characters to immediately obtain canon items from homes especially weapons or other things they may have had on their person when they were pulled from their worlds! There will always be a prompt that provides some sort of "reward" to characters who complete certain tasks.

Current players are always encouraged to tag new people on the TDM!

🦊 New Star Children meet the Fox still in their worlds, and she brings them into the new realm of Folkmore. As you follow her, your body begins to change and new characteristics emerge. These may stay for a while, or perhaps they will hide away after. And during all of this, the Fox explains to you where you will be going: to Folkmore.

and then... you fall like a shooting star, falling to the land in a burst of starlight.

🦊 Experienced Star Children are already familiar with this time of the month. There are shooting stars all across the sky, and some fall to the land, which means the Fox has brought new arrivals. These newly arrived Star Children will face some tests, but Thirteen wants the more seasoned residents to participate as well.

Perhaps you follow the falling stars on your own, or perhaps the Fox simply teleports you there, but it appears you too will be part of this.

[ Prompt OnePrompt Two]

Ghost Tours .
Content Warnings: Ghosts, Potential Violence, Potential Death

Summer has hit. It's hot, and nowhere is it hotter than Cruel Summer. Naturally, new Star Children arrive in Cruel Summer with no indication of which direction to go to escape, unless they're so lucky as to arrive near the Selkie River. The water provides a break, and a selkie skin will protect Star Children from the heat. Though beware the cruelty of leaving a selkie without their skin. Along with the heat, Star Children can hear whispers and the echoes of screams throughout Cruel Summer. There's no obvious source of the noises. Not the normal creatures. Not anything anyone can see.

Whether new or old Star Child, anyone lost, overheated, in need of a rest, or anything else will find a friendly spirit will find them in the sands, rock, or shores of Cruel Summer. They'll guide the way toward the huts found in Cruel Summer. These huts have changed; the huts are bigger and grow together, making them one interconnected twisting winding empty town. No one appears to live there. The wooden town is in disrepair, varying from building to building. Even so, they are cool inside, a welcome break from the summer heat.

No matter how one entered, even through the swinging doors to the saloon, that exit disappears behind Star Children. There's no turning back. The only way out is to explore the way through the buildings. This fact continues to be true building to building as exits continue to vanish. The abandoned town isn't as empty as it first seems. As Star Children explore the branching paths through the wooden structures, they see ghosts of spirits going through the paces of their lives. They're familiar to these spaces and interact with missing objects that sometimes shimmer in spirit energy.

Spirit Children may interrupt these routines to try to talk with the ghosts. Some ghostly spirits are friendly. They may interact with Star Children as though they're someone else, someone the spirits used to know. Others, like the bartender, may treat them like a new customer. Other ghosts are determined to stick to their routines and, should Star Children continue to interrupt, will attack those who disturb them.

These spirits may kill Star Children when they attack. Normal weapons won't hurt them. There are revolvers, shotguns, iron pokers, hunting knives, and other plain weapons around to grab in self-defense. Salt bullets and iron will dispel ghosts. These weapons may be grabbed at any time. However, doing so attracts the creatures in Cruel Summer. A blood red worm spitting yellow acid may break through the floor to eat or spray Star Children. An enormous coyote may leap through the window. Whether attracted by the use of weapons or passing by, any dangerous creature found in Cruel Summer seems agitated when they come near these structures and will attack them and anyone inside. They will focus especially on anyone with a stolen selkie skin.

Should Star Children die, whether to ghosts or creatures, they will not immediately return to life. Do not pass go. Instead they will haunt the ghost town for one week in the room where they were killed. Other Star Children may recognize them and work to snap them out of their routines. Yet nothing will free the Star Children's spirits before the week is through. At the end of the week, they'll come to, alive, in their bodies in the room they died in. Best get through and out of the ghost town before dying again!

A constant through these scenes are the spirits' spoons, visible somewhere in each scene. The ghost spoons are whole. Once free of the ghost town, Star Children may choose to travel to the Shattered Spoon Shrine in Never Fade to search for the broken fragments of any of these spoons. They are in such small pieces, however, that no Star Child may feed them enough Lore alone to bring the spirit back. Two or more Star Children may spend time in the Shrine creating and feeding Lore toward the spoons to heal them. It just may be enough to bring someone back.

  • Whispers, echoes of screams, etc become common throughout Cruel Summer
  • Huts become bigger, interconnected, growing together. Anyone lost, overheated, in need of something in Cruel Summer gets a friendly spirit redirecting them to these buildings
  • Buildings will still be in some state of disrepair, but like a whole twisting winding town
  • Insides are a cool respite supernatural ghost spirit air conditioning
  • Only way out is through, no turning back, as the exits disappear behind you
  • Many are friendly, but some are not. One can attempt to talk to them, but how interactive they are varies
  • Occasionally other creatures from Cruel Summer may burst in and attack
  • If a Star Child dies, rather than return to life immediately, they stay a ghost for about a week, part of the tour
Flames to Embers .
Content Warnings: Fire, Coerced Confessions

Fire! Fire across the realm! For the second half of June, wildfire burns everywhere. While it doesn’t hurt Star Children, it can reduce everything else to ash: homes, businesses, gardens, spirits. The local spirits will be in a panic and beg Star Children for help from small ice mice in Wintermute to fennec foxes in Cruel Summer. How can Star Children help? Confessions. Anything the person they are with doesn’t know. The more earnest and meaningful the better.

When wildfire erupts and spreads, Star Children may stand in or in front of an area they want to protect and confess something to another Star Child who happens to be nearby. Their neighbor? Their partner? A stranger lost in a new land? These confessions simply need to be something the other person doesn’t know to protect structures and spirits. Memories related to the confession will show in the fire. The fire will fuel these memories until they run out of energy, dying down to embers. At least in that place at that time.

Should something start to burn before someone confesses, multiple confessions are necessary to catch the wildfire’s attention and distract it from the fuel source it is feeding on. Two or more Star Children will need to make confessions whose memories are shared in the flames. Water powers can also help quell the flames, but confessions are necessary in the end.

Once July hits, the wildfires are mostly gone, only sparking up here and there on occasion. In their stead are embers. They spark in the air like fireflies and fly around Folkmore, attracted to Star Children. These embers land on Star Children and make them glow. There’s no pain. In fact, the embers provide sparks of insight into memories, situations, and other emotional dilemmas that Star Children haven’t previously understood. Talking the issue over with another Star Children provides further emotional clarity.

Spirits are welcoming to both embers and Star Children. Confessions help Folkmore grow as well. Gardens bloom in beautiful displays. Crops grow healthy and joyful. It’s even possible to hear humming from some of the vegetables and fruits. The land grows with the Star Children. Anyone who lacks a green thumb can work their way around that with confessions! Save that dying plant and grow those tomatoes.

One time that a Star Child confesses, either to wildfire or to embers, they will find a jeweled box shaped like a flame. The peak of the flame comes off to reveal the insides. Within, there is an item from home. It may even be a weapon or magical item. Larger more meaningful confessions are more likely to receive weapons. These items may even be larger than should fit in the box or its entrance. Whether the box should only hold a single ring or fill the palm of one’s hand, these items fit. Star Children also can keep the jeweled box, and this one item from home can be stored within the box. Other items too large to fit the box will not enter it. Only the one from the box.

  • Last two weeks of June, wildfire burns across Folkmore. After that, they are rare.
  • Confessions can protect or rescue buildings, land areas, and spirits.
  • Come July, embers spark across Folkmore like fireflies. They provide insight for Star Children. Talking helps.
  • Confessions help the land grow.
  • Confessions reveal a jeweled box containing an item from home.

"They are. Perhaps I will find their oldest altars when I meet the Great Mothers." The Temple she'd found suggested so. Until this moment, she hadn't realized how much she wanted that.

"I am thinking less of allies and more of ways to recover our numbers but if our Brother has allies, they will be most welcome."

"Perhaps. You won't find that here," he remarked, though she seemed to inherently know where these Great Mothers would be located. He would follow her lead on that matter if he remained alive long enough to do so, though meeting Great Mothers sounded like a daunting prospect for himself to undertake.

"Brother always carves out allies. Everyone is greedy for something," he said simply. He didn't hold out much hope that other Nightkin would arrive to add to their number. It seemed too good to be true to know so many existed here in this place already.

"No, but I know how to find it, when we return home." Return home, more powerful and better able to assist their people. Her eyes, for the first time since they have met, take on a look of excitement.

"From what the galaxy has whispered, he indeed is gifted in such regards." Which was important, and needed. She didn't know if more would appear here, but she knew more could be made. Which was equally important.

"I see. And you'll share this knowledge with both Brothers and Sisters?" Perhaps there was hope for their people, but he wouldn't hedge particular energy on that either. Their survival may require a cultural shift survivors may not entirely be willing to indulge. In the end, it might also not matter what they try to do, especially if the Clone Wars ended on the side of the Sith.

"He is. Hence why you should do better to speak to him over myself," he said simply. He did not have the skills of his brother, but he had also come here to develop his own on a path that he chose. Perhaps this Sister and his brother could find a fruitful alliance.

"I believe the knowledge of our ancestral home on Preidea, and how hyperspace travel is a talent the galaxy is something they learned from us is honestly the brightright of our people. And if the first Altars are to be found there, then they are a sacred pilmiage all Nightkin should make." There is a feverish look that overtakes Morgan's eyes, devotion bordering on zealousness. "Perhaps even a new village of Nightbrothers to live and tend to The Fanged God's altar and a Clan of Nightsisters to serve The Winged Goddess' altar."

It takes her a moment to pull herself together, to cool herself to present. Still at Savage's words, she patted his bicep, "Do not discount your talents Brother, especially with so few of us currently, all our talents are precious."

She spoke of things that he had never heard of, and yet he found himself intent and even a little curious of these alters and birthrights. Surely it would never apply to him as a male, but if he could contribute to the rise of his people, was that not the greatest service that he could provide? The spell that maintained him in his monstrous form also had him leaning into the idea of such a service. She truly believed, and it reminded him of Maul's own will. "Perhaps, Sister. I wouldn't know of such things, but... if you truly believe it is out there, I would like to experience it someday." Unlike Ventress, Morgan's encouragement was a rarity he was vulnerable to.

Her passions are warranted; it is in their blood to be roused by such fights, to seek knowledge and power. He didn't dare touch her in return, but his gaze fell to where her hand continued contact with his arm. "I can see why others would follow you, Sister."

It had taken her decades to learn all she currently knew. Decades of searching, hungering, hunting down every rumor, ever barest hint of their people. But in all that, she'd found deep truths. "The planet Arcana contains several of our," meaning the Nightsisters' "ancient Temples, but I do not sense their spirits would be upset by a lone Nightbrother or two coming to seek their place of belonging." Because she did mean it: their ancestors had laid pathways through space, their galaxy and others, and it belonged to all Nightkin. "Seatos houses an ancient Temple, you'll need a map and a Sister with some talent of Magick, but together they will give you a map to Peridea. The Temples themselves are worth seeing." She remembered them warmly, exploring with almost childlike wonder and unabashed devotion. And she is giving Savage the names for himself and for any Sisters he might come across. "But there are other ways to find Peridea, if one is brave enough. Bold enough."

Obediently, Savage did his best to commit the planet and temple names to memory. He would not doubt share them with Maul at the very least, but he might also spend time considering them for himself. As a kit, he had spent many a night peering out the window at the stars wondering at the places beyond his own childish world. Her words tickled an old imagination. "It depends on the Nightsister's spirit. Some are said to seek to subjugate males even from the Ichor, but... I've never witnessed that." Maybe just a story to scare kits as many of their tales were. "I am brave and bold, Sister."

Maybe he thought he would need to prove himself to back up such a claim. He would.

Morgan had all but forgotten the fires, engrossed as she was with having another Nightkin in her vicinity and able to tell such ancient knowledge. And for someone who's memory and attitude was marked by Dathomir's burning, who burned her own city without a thought, the widening circle of extinguished flames was ironic. She was, after all, telling secrets.

"Some may have those feelings but with so few of us, there is less Magick to draw on. And we will have fewer without our Brothers alive." But she too believed they were mostly stories told to keep especially male kits in line.

"Good. Tell me Brother, have you hear takes of Purrgils, the giant space beast which roam the hyperlinks as the edges of known space?" The oldest tales, ones she had thought were just cradle stories.

This wasn't his village so Savage had never been particularly invested in the fire unless it threatened their own lives. He had been keeping track of it and the heat that it generated, but as it consumed buildings, his energy investment was admittedly low. It seemed contained the more that they had spoken, which decreased his investment to basically zero. He, of course, hadn't figured out that their conversation was the source of the extinguished flames.

"The Force is everywhere Sister, though perhaps not as the Ichor of our own planet produces. We are strongest at home, so... do you think these temples beyond our stars will have the same potency as Dathomir?" For him, he drew on the Force whenever and however he wanted, but the Ichor was important to their people to contain their spirits and allow them feasting. "You... have chosen a mate, Sister?" He asked very, very tentatively.

He tilted his head at the strange name, considering before shaking it in a negative. "No, Sister. Are they important to your cause?"

Morgan hadn't linked it (yet) but she will, once she's not so consumed.

"They do. Likely not as powerful to those not exposed to the Ichor, but we populated a vast area beyond Dathomir for many many years. Why we built an enclave on Dathomir is a mystery still to be divined." But she wanted too. The mysteries of their far past was something she was committed to. "No, I have not. There was never prospect which held that potential, although I know it was because I was still seeking out a Nightbrother." Not... someone outside them.

"They will lead you home, if you can find them. They taught us the gift of hyperlane travel and their migratory routes lead to Peridea." Hence brave and bold - they were huge dangerous animals, wild, and their paths vast.

(LOVE THEM!)

He could infer that it would be useful to trade in knowledge of their own planets then, of welcoming these Great Mothers to perhaps send aid or come themselves to view Dathomir. If it were more to the benefit, they may stay, may even assist with repopulation? "There are stories of why Dathomir was colonized. The Force is strong on our planet, even tangible more than other places." Something, something discarded Jedi settled and began to evolve there to what their population was today.

He tilted his head at the idea of her waiting for a Nightbrother. It made sense; other males could suffice but they were not as obedient or colourful as actual Nightbrothers. "Perhaps your return to Dathomir or to Peridea with our kind then it will allow you the opportunity to take one for yourself." What if he nudged her to Maul? They could make a powerful team, though his brother would not be subservient. Then again, she didn't seem interested in that kind of demands so it could work. Hmmmmmmmm....

"I see. I've never seen whatever they are." He would fight one though. He'd fight just about anything though. "But I expect I will know them if I see them?"

"I have heard, and some may be true but I fear we've forgotten more than we have remembered of our past." Which was distressing if she thought on it too long. "I do believe they are intending return to our galaxy, at least for a time. They haven't told me." At least if it was too be permanent or not, she's sure they mean to return with Thrawn.

"Prehaps. I will follow the Great Mothers' advice on the matter as well." Advice, orders - from them, it amounted to the same. "But returning to Dathomir to continue Mother Selena's clan would be ideal." But if he people would be best served by her fulfilling another role, she would, without hesitation.

"Yes. They are present in ancient glyphs too." She looked around, spying a pile of char and turned toward it, giving Savage a little pull to come with her.
opress: (pic#14587925)

[personal profile] opress 2024-08-22 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Some, yes. Our stories are passed down through verbal accounts and rituals, but much knowledge has been lost." The Nightbrothers had their own traditions using glyphs and acid on stones, and it was a unique individual to master such a talent. The stories were not much of colonization; Maul, Savage, Feral and all of his generation had been born on Dathomir, but it was told their bloodline came from Iridonia of the past. The Sister had a different but intertwined history.

He nodded his head, not about to provide advice. She would choose when she decided to or when ordered to. Maul's only issue was not being able to produce kits, so the continuation of Talzin's bloodline unfortunately fell to him. He was leery of such a role; surely she would tolerate it but not be encouraging as if it were Maul.

Maybe he had seen them in the glyphs. "On Dathomir?" He didn't resist her pull, following along and matching her step. His own interest in the char was little. "Perhaps I have seen one in glyph then, Sister. There are rare stories of warriors riding beasts to meet the Fanged God."

"Too much has been taken from us." There's her rage, never far from the surface, the rage that someone would DARE, the howling, mad rage that had filled her since Grievous attacked Dathomir. It's practically boiling off her.

At the pile of char, Morgan uses her for to press it down, flat and compact, using her Magick to telekineticly make it more suitable before spreading her fingers out as a green burning appeared and carved out a Purrgil glyph curled around a planet.
opress: (pic#14587912)

[personal profile] opress 2024-08-23 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, Sister," he agreed, not because he personally believed it but because it seemed safest to agree. After all, he had gained considerable amount after leaving Dathomir. However, the Sisters had been decimated, and he hadn't any Brothers that he was close to with Feral being dead. "We will take back what we can then." Best to encourage in case that rage turn on him.

He peered over at whatever it was that Morgan was doing, leaning forward to view the creature that she was drawing in the ashes. "Is that an ugly shooting star, Sister? Or a hungry space beast with tentacles?"
survivingsister: (Speaking)

[personal profile] survivingsister 2024-08-23 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
She generally wasn't one to turn on her own - she'd lost too much to consider that a worthy action. But snapping verbally or physically at a Nightbrother was acceptable - Savage was probably right to encourage her ire in other directions.

"A Purrgil. A spacefairing beast which travels the hyperspace lanes, large enough to carry off tar destroyers in their tentacles. Tame one, as we Sisters tame rancors, and it will carry you from Dathomir to our other ancient Temples, to Peridea. Fail to, and it will kill you and drag your corpse to their graveyard."

Brave and bold, Brother. Brave and bold.
opress: (Default)

[personal profile] opress 2024-08-23 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Purrgil," he repeated, examining the glyph and imagining such a great beast roaming among the stars. Were they truly as big as a moon? He had to wonder, and he thought perhaps it would be worthwhile to learn about them if that information was available.

After all, Morgan described them in such a way as to put them akin to rancors in ferocity. How one traveled on one he didn't know, but they no doubt had secrets if they would take them to these ancient Sisters in another galaxy. "If one isn't strong enough, the graveyard is where they belong. Only the strong will survive."

"Exactly. I do not know why The Great Mothers are stranded on Peridea, but they have been. They taught us, we taught other, but the pathway to Peridea became lost." Leading to her entire mission. Her visions.

"They don't travel alone, but in pods. And they can swallow mid-sized ships."
opress: (Default)

[personal profile] opress 2024-09-03 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps there is a reason that they feel the need to stay there," he remarked, uncertain how long her tolerance of his opinion would last. If these Mothers were the greatest of their generation, they would not abandon Dathomir permanently. There was a reason for all Great Mothers to do what they did.

"I see, so they are more dangerous together." That made sense. In a way, that was like how male tended to hunt. They were far more potent together than alone.
survivingsister: (Speaking)

[personal profile] survivingsister 2024-09-09 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure there is. What it is, I do not know. Nor do I know if they will decide to share it with me." She was reasonably sure Thrawn was aware. He may share with her when they meet again.

"They are. And they travel in huge pods. I recommend spending time watching them, at least a few days, before attempting anything." She paused for a moment. "They are like us, Mothers and daughters, Sisters all, traveling together, and Males together."
opress: (pic#14587910)

[personal profile] opress 2024-09-09 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nor I." He would not even pretend to consider himself worthy of a conversation with the Great Mothers despite being a product of one. He knew his place, but he would respect their authority should they call on him to serve. It was only his brother that he remained even more loyal to. Maul was his kin more than anyone else alive.

"I would be fine watching them from a distance." He didn't have the skills of taming animals; he had purposefully allowed many of those skills atrophy to protect his little brother and hide in plain sight. Now he was so angry and welling with Force potential that it was likely off putting to animals and semi-sentient beasts such as that. "They are transient. I assume safety in numbers."
