PANDORA'S FOX II

If you were here last June, do you remember that app that appeared on the relics then, Pandora's Fox? It's all about finding your Familiar bond. It's been available for people to use since every Star Child was forced to fill it out or have it filled out for them with its grand reveal. However, it's sat quietly in the background unobtrusive to those who didn't click to see what it was about.

Until now.

That's right, Pandora's Fox is back! (and with a makeover). The app has been rejiggered with old questions and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a Familiar bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!

Familiar bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!

Really?! [ Alluka beams. She likes the idea very much. Maybe she can visit the Boiling Isles sometime! ]

Are there lots of people like us?

Not quite. Like I said, usually there's a head for each sibling! But they do share a body.

Oh that's really cool too! You can talk with both of them at once! We take turns.

Yes, it's easier to have a conversation with both. Though the downside is never being able to have a chat with one without the other!

That's true. Nanika and I don't usually do any secrets. We catch each other up. [ Alluka's unsure what to think about keeping a secret from Nanika. They were each other's only person for so long. Is it normal they don't have secrets? Is it weird if that doesn't change? ]

I think it makes sense, for someone in your situation. If you can't trust the person you share a body with, how can you live peacefully?

Exactly. That would be the worst. I trust Nanika completely, and she trusts me. I've stood up for her when people are mean.

Why are people mean to her?

Because she's different and they don't understand her.

[ That's part of it. That's the main point. The specifics, well, no one should be scared of her. Look at Big Brother. He's not. He's kind, and that's all that matters. ]

[It's silly, but on the other hand, it's normal, isn't it? Very unfortunately. "Different" so often means something to point at and question. No matter where you go, that's how society is.

Just because the Boiling Isles' idea of "different" doesn't include extra personality or heads doesn't mean they don't follow the same basic rules.]

Is that why you don't like bullies?

[ Alluka swallows hard and nods. Most people don't think of Nanika as a person, not back home. Here, here people are better, but they also mostly don't know. Not even a little bit. Because they've kept it quiet. Which, it's a secret, and it's safer for everyone that way. It also means people don't really have the chance to be bullies or not, not the same way. ]

[She hesitates now, but... it's only fair to be transparent. Alluka was with her.]

I... used to be a bully. I thought I had to, to stop something worse from happening, but the reason doesn't make it any better. I learned my lesson. I promise, I'll never ever be mean to your sister.

But I wouldn't accept other people being bullied either! It's not just for Nanika.

[ Alluka is quick to point this out. She simply never met anyone else in need of it for most her life. She never met people for most her life. Gon is good. No one bullies him, but she'd step up if they did. Or if someone bullied Amity or—

Alluka blinks and stares at the screen. Her mouth a small o. She takes a moment to gather herself and nods. ]

Everyone can learn to be better. That's what's important. Not to do it now you know better.

[Still feels bad, but until she properly makes amends, it's a feeling she deserves to experience. Just because Willow seems to have forgiven her (enough for them to become friends and hang out again) doesn't mean she's done enough.]

I'm trying to. I want that, more than anything. To be better than I used to be.

I haven't witnessed you bullying a single person, or I'd have spoken up about it.

[ That's meant to make Amity feel a little better. She'd never have guessed about Amity's bullying past if she hadn't said something herself! Or if it didn't come up in a trial. Perhaps that would have happened. ]

We're not perfect, but we can do our best. Not make the same mistakes! Make NEW ones.

W-well. I'm definitely good at making new ones.

[Is that good? It's kind of good. Better than the alternative. She's at least confident that she hasn't done any new bullying, certainly not since befriending Luz proper.]

Excellent! That's awesome. Sometimes I get scared about making mistakes, but I remind myself everyone makes them. I'm part of everyone.

[ Alluka gets quiet a few moments. ]

I've met more people my age here than I ever did back home!

That's good. [Suddenly reminded vaguely of Hunter.] Did you ever go to school before coming here?

I was... homeschooled. Before I met Gon, the only other kids I'd met were my siblings or some of the butlers. [ Even then, they were way more careful about which butlers she met before the big trip to save Gon. It was a lot of fun to meet Canary and Amane. ]

So Kuma Lisa Academy is my first school! The classes are small, but I also meet people outside of school.

It sounds like this world is a good place for you in many ways.

It is! I wanted to go on an adventure and see more new things. I was already on an adventure and seeing the world with Big Brother, but this is an even bigger adventure!

How is it being here for you?

Hmm... I have mixed feelings. I think it's safer here, but my home is in danger, so being in this world means I can't help anyone there. I would struggle a lot more if Luz wasn't here with me, too. I don't dislike it, either. Just about everyone I've met here has been good.

It's understandable it's not home and won't be, but I am glad you're here at least for a while. I'm so glad we met and we're friends.

I think if I can get stronger, and remember what I've learned, being here might help me. I just need to learn better, more effective magic. Something that would work against the Collector.
