PANDORA'S FOX II

If you were here last June, do you remember that app that appeared on the relics then, Pandora's Fox? It's all about finding your Familiar bond. It's been available for people to use since every Star Child was forced to fill it out or have it filled out for them with its grand reveal. However, it's sat quietly in the background unobtrusive to those who didn't click to see what it was about.

Until now.

That's right, Pandora's Fox is back! (and with a makeover). The app has been rejiggered with old questions and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a Familiar bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!

Familiar bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!

What entails a "dark" elf?

[ They were a thing in his childhood stories, but didn't end up being a thing in the reality he encountered. ]

Dark elves are the Drow. They, we, usually make our homes deep beneath the surface in the lightless realm of the Underdark. They worship other gods, but also differ in appearance. Our skin color ranges from deep gray to obsidian and our hair is white. We are, very literally, "dark".

So it's a culture -- maybe even something magically apart from the other elves of your realm? Distinct?

The Drow of Menzoberranzan have forged a pact with Lolth the Spider Queen, a goddess of chaos, who has bestowed them with gifts not afforded to those who do not follow her, so yes, magically apart.

Huh. Interesting. Fascinating, actually. In his own world, the realms he knows, that would go the opposite way, even if people on the ground might not realize it. But he wonders... maybe this is genuinely the case for this guy? Huh. ]

That being the root of the dark elves? This - realm?

That's what we're taught. I believe the truth is more oblique. I have met elves of the surface, and outside of color and custom, there is little difference between us.

If I might venture a guess though - that you say their patron is a goddess of chaos, I assume that custom has led to conflicts in the past?

Conflict is welcomed, and smaller houses are destroyed by larger, more powerful ones, regularly. What is honored is doing so without anyone knowing it was you who loosed the arrow.

Huuuh. And are the elves of the surface similarly retaliatory in that conflict?

The Drow give them little choice. They regular make raids on the surface elves. They do not...leave survivors.

Huh, then are there raids to the below by those above as well? Or is theirs merely a defensive posture?

There is nothing defensive about it. It is a slaughter. The Drow target the surface elves during times of celebration, when they are weak and their guards lowered. We are the boogeymen they warn their children of at night.

I was raised on the same lies, that the elves of the surface were evil and wished nothing but harm for us, that they should be killed before they could return the favor.

It wasn't until I saw them that I knew, such creatures as they couldn't possibly be evil.

No. We're taught they have forsaken us. More likely, they fear us so much they leave us to our lightless home and thank the gods when we stay there.

Where I came from there's dozens, hundreds. I just don't know of any where there's gods I'd legitimize involved in them. And if people made distinctions between each other, they'd do it by kingdom or creed.

Perhaps, but the results no no less real. A goddess need not stand before you to force your hand if you believe.

Then yeah, looking at it through belief, a lot of conflicts flare up along those lines. Less than there is for material reasons like greed, but still plenty, especially if you count ones with the more "lesser" folks like lizardmen.

Greed will make a man attack another, but it is faith that stirs nations. If a war is waged over resources, it is more about survival than greed.

...lizardmen are not lesser, only different.
