PANDORA'S FOX II

If you were here last June, do you remember that app that appeared on the relics then, Pandora's Fox? It's all about finding your Familiar bond. It's been available for people to use since every Star Child was forced to fill it out or have it filled out for them with its grand reveal. However, it's sat quietly in the background unobtrusive to those who didn't click to see what it was about.

Until now.

That's right, Pandora's Fox is back! (and with a makeover). The app has been rejiggered with old questions and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a Familiar bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!

Familiar bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!

[He considers it. Taking that offered out. But he also knows that if he does, he's gonna take that chance to try and avoid the whole thing. Which isn't entirely fair to Caduceus in this case, and generally is only gonna make it all more awkward in general.

Alright. Come and find me at the farms when you're ready.

[They can't undo the secret-sharing by spirits, but he can at least spare Fjord from a public conversation in the aftermath.]

[Even if he still really wants to avoid the hell out of this conversation. It takes a bit but he eventually tentatively heads towards the farms to seek out the firbolg, the set of canine ears broadcasting uncertainty plainly.]

[Caduceus is sitting quietly in the dirt in the middle of some field, planting a fresh row of greenery. Amongst all the brown soil, his pastel colours stand out, so he's very easy to find.]

[Honestly, where else would he be? If there's one thing Fjord's learned about his friend, it's his absolute delight at any chance to be out grubbing around with plants.

It's kind of adorable, truth be told.]

So, [Trying somewhat not to sneak up on him.] Want a hand?

[He's pretty sure he can at least follow directions enough to help. And it'll be a good focus so he's not quite so blatantly inwardly screaming at the spirits saying the quiet parts out loud for him.]

[In fairness to Caduceus, he is assigned to the farming group, so he's just doing his job. ...But in fairness to Fjord, he would find a way to dig through the dirt even if he was assigned elsewhere, so. Correct. (And adorable.)

He looks up with a smile as Fjord arrives.]

If you like, I won't say no. You might find it soothing to get your hands a little dirty.

[Doing something with his hands usually calms him down, after all.]

[Caduceus' smile is returned, Fjord shifting down to kneel beside the firbolg. He doesn't know about plants himself, but he's been around him enough to have a basic idea of what to do, figures imitating his friend would do the trick here unless he's told otherwise.]

Yeah, you're probably right. Workin' with my hands was always a good time to get some thinkin' done on a ship, can't see this being much different in that respect.

There's certainly a lot of work to be done on a ship! You might find gardening less strenuous. Less running around, at least.

[Not much heavy lifting or rope-tying, either. Plants are much lighter. He demonstrates how to plant a few of the ones he's currently working through, so Fjord can see how it's done.]

[It's not difficult, to observe Caduceus doing it, so it doesn't take long for Fjord to fall into the task alongside him. Not as quick, but he feels they'd be better for him taking care with the plants than trying to rush things.]

More like a sail or net mendin' day if anything. On a day the wind's dead, a sail comes down and everyone gets on patchin' and sewin' up rips. If someone's trash with a needle, they glue canvas patches, or they work on knottin' up holes in the fishin' nets.

Oh, that sounds like a great collaborative effort. Do you sing shanties by any chance?

[Look he may not be a very good or experienced sailor but he does love the singalongs.]

[Fjord can't help but chuckle fondly at that.]

I wasn't the best on the ship, but I could keep everyone else on time without them wantin' to pitch me overboard.

[Fjord considers the idea, before nodding his agreement.]

Yeah, I could do that. Gardening's got a kinda rhythm to it I've noticed, that'd make it perfect for that sorta thing.

[Not so much for necessity of keeping pace with others, but just pacing oneself could be useful too. And he figured Caduceus would find it fun anyways.]

Now, I know what Thirteen's program thinks you're feeling on the whole familiar business. What are your true thoughts?

[Aaaand they're back to the subject Fjord was pretending didn't exist for a few blissful minutes.

He takes a few more just to... think. If he denied it, he had a feeling Caduceus would accept that. He wasn't one to trample boundaries. But...

Was that honest? And was that fair to the two of them? As far as the situation could be, forced before it's time by the spirits as it was.]

They're... not wrong, [A faint huff of breath because oh shit he said that out loud.] Not thrilled that they just put it out there like that but... I do like you, and I do trust you.

[He didn't think he needed to explain to Caduceus just why that last part was such a big goddamn deal.]

[He doesn't need to explain, no, and Caduceus is touched by the admission. That trust and care was hard-won over time throughout their journey back in Exandria, and things are different here, their existence less strained and smashed together by trials of life and death on the daily. (Still happens here and there, but there's a more noticeable gap between.) Considering the absence of the others, he's glad to have won Fjord over anyway. This is still and always will be a genuinely cherished friendship for him.]

I feel the same way. [While we're keeping it honest, here.] I'll admit I hadn't given much thought to all this bond stuff, but if I was pressed and meant to pick someone, you'd be up there.

[He's not especially for or against. Seems useful. Some might even have called it a pleasant experience. Just wasn't something he'd found necessary, up to this point.]

Is it something you'd considered? Or wanted?

I haven't really... considered it. Seriously, I mean, just the idea of it takes way more trust than I thought I'd have with someone.

[A faint huff]

But at the same time, it does sound kinda nice. Having that kinda bond with someone y'trust.

It does, doesn't it. On both counts. I can't deny the appeal, especially considered our ties have been severed from what we are used to, otherwise.

[He wonders how it would feel, if it could provide any sort of balm to mend even a small corner of the void left in the Wildmother's absence in his life. Her presence, missed for over a year now, could not be replaced, but... he would love to feel something even remotely similar again.

Fjord is right, though; the trust needed would be hefty. He wouldn't judge the other for not being ready for it, for perhaps trusting him but not that much yet.]
