PANDORA'S FOX II

If you were here last June, do you remember that app that appeared on the relics then, Pandora's Fox? It's all about finding your Familiar bond. It's been available for people to use since every Star Child was forced to fill it out or have it filled out for them with its grand reveal. However, it's sat quietly in the background unobtrusive to those who didn't click to see what it was about.

Until now.

That's right, Pandora's Fox is back! (and with a makeover). The app has been rejiggered with old questions and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a Familiar bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!

Familiar bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps kindness is the quality I rank s the most attractive in a partner. I would say it certainly balances me out. I wouldn't say I'm unkind, but I was revered as a goddess of war for a reason. [ A singular focus on violence and battle; on the mission. With very few thoughts towards anything else. ]

Where I'm from, we call that being badass. You're not unkind, but anyone with eyes can see there's something sharp about you. Powerful. [ And Gil, as far as she understands him, is the perfect balance to that. ] A partner that balances that is important.

[ Will she be evaluating people around Folkmore for Thena from now on? Maybe! ]

Badass, hmm? I can take that. [ She sounds very amused by it. ] It is, particularly with some of my....issues. [ Which happen to be her number two biggest issue with he idea of finding someone. ]

...have they been causing you any problems? [ Her issues, she means. ]

....lately, more than they had. Perhaps it's just being trapped in Amrita.

[fogsong]

Maybe. It could be the chaos, the way Folkmore outside is falling apart. It is a bit apocalyptic and that might be triggering.

Is there anything I can do to help?

Triggering. [ She repeats the word as if finding that it does in fact fit. Much to her dissatisfaction. She does admit though: ]

But no, when I've felt...lost I've just been making certain I'm as far away from others as I can get here.

[ Sharon can't say she likes the idea of Thena being out there, alone. She knows the Eternal can handle it, she's handled it for a long time now, but things are especially rough right now. ]

I know you want to protect others but... I don't think you should be dealing with this alone. [ She is Worried. ]

Though I appreciate it, you don't need to worry. I'm not even certain if there's many here who could truly do to stop me. Which makes alone far safer.

[fogsong]

But maybe I can help keep you from reaching a point where you need to be stopped.

[rememoror]

[ She doesn't respond for a bit. ] If you promise not to hesitate to defend yourself with all you have should worse come to worse then...I won't mind some company.

[fogsong]

I promise, Thena. [ As much as she would hate it, Sharon is well prepared to end the life of someone she loves—but only because she knows it would kill them to realize what they'd done in the throes of ptsd or bloodlust. ] Where can I find you at?

The fruit orchards.

[fogsong]

[ Sharon reaches the orchard swiftly, her coyote form lending her speed and stealth. Like every person she’s come to know, Thena has a scent all her own—distinct, undeniable—and it guides Sharon unerringly through the rows of trees. She moves silently, slipping between trunks and over gnarled roots until she catches sight of the Eternal’s familiar silhouette.

A soft bark escapes her as she steps closer, announcing her presence gently before shifting back into her human form. Her molten-gold eyes linger, a reminder of the creature just beneath her skin. ]

Where do you usually go when you feel like this? [ Sharon’s words are soft and coaxing, with a steady undercurrent of care beneath them. The question is meant to draw Thena’s thoughts outward, to start unraveling the weight she’s carrying. ]

[ Even before she hears the bark she can sense a creature approaching, should be prepared enough. Yet even after all this time she never fully is and there's a flicker of celestial energy in her hand-- the outline of a weapon forming before she hears Sharon's voice and manages to stop it from forming fully. It fades away and she squeezes her eyes shut. ]

Do you think it'd be helpful if I had a usual spot? [ She tries to give a teasing smile, as if she's just joking around. But there's truth there, if she wants to hide from people when she feels herself slipping it's best to do so in different locations. Easier to not be tracked or followed that way. ]

As far away from others as I can get usually. Sometimes out to the lakes, sometimes closer to the lorasses, occasionally here but further away.

[fogsong]

[ There's no mistaking the faint shimmer of energy as Thena begins to form a weapon but then it fades. Thena's still here. ]

Point taken. [ It might be helpful for Sharon for Thena to have a usual spot but for the Eternal? It's better to slip away somewhere no one's seen her, keep the risk low no matter her current sense of control. Sharon's just grateful the older woman trusts her enough to allow her this.

She drifts closer but keeps some distance until she's certain Thena's comfortable. ] How're you feeling right now?

[ A hint of shame flashes in her eyes, even as she tells herself it's alright; she kept in control. Everything's fine. Still, a part of her can't help but feel this isn't the best idea. She's been so careful to only interact with others here when she feels herself completely calm and in control and that's...well, it's not how she feels most of the time.

She sighs at the question and slides down against a tree, folding her legs under her. It's not really much safer of a position for her to be in, she could get up in an instant, but it feels a bit more relaxed at least. ]

Like I could easily find myself lost in memories.

[fogsong]

[ Sharon takes a seat a few feet away, legs folded beneath her, watching Thena with clear concern in her stormy gaze. She knows what it's like to stand on the precipice of memories but when she panics, she sees horrors, when Thena panics, she might commit them. ]

Have you ever tried... [ God, this will sound so lame, she knows it but... ] cellphone games? They usually have a simple goal for you to focus on, like matching figures, but for some reason it can help pull you out of your head. I knew a girl in high school who swore by Candy Crush before big tests.

[ That isn't to compare Thena's issues with something as inane as test anxiety but it's just about the only example she's got. ]

[ With some degree of anxiousness she taps a finger on her own knee, a tapping that goes from a steady rhythm to something plagued by a bit more franticness. Her eyebrow quirks up at the suggestion, but there's also a soft smile there on her lips ]

I haven't, no. But Sersi was absolutely obsessed with her phone. I think she and Sprite may have played those games.

[fogsong]

[ Sharon seems to consider something and then pulls her Relic out. After a moment, music begins to play. It's bright and cheery. She stands and approaches Thena. She gets just close enough to offer the soft baby pink device and takes a step back. ]

All right, see the cute animals? You just gotta get three matching ones in a row to make them pop, which gets you points. The more in a row, the more points. [ It's just some Folkmore-themed variant of Candy Crush. ] It seems simple but the longer you play, the tougher it gets.

[ There's no guarantee it'll help. Thena has been dealing with this longer than Sharon has been alive and she's certain she and Gil tried everything they could. But there's no harm in trying. ]

[ A tiny part of her feels a tug of sadness at the caution Sharon shows, even if it is what she's asked for and certainly smart. She takes the relic and pokes around with it, seems to catch on to the general rhythm and point of the game quickly enough. Give her a bit more time with it and she'll be ready for a competition. ]

Do you play these sorts of things yourself?

[fogsong]

All the time. [ These types of games are great at filling time. Even back home, if she wasn't listening to music to zone out and disassociate, she had a game open on her cellphone or iPod. ] I usually play them on the train but if I can't sleep because I can't get my brain to shut the fuck up for five minutes, I open up the relic and load one of those games up. Eventually, all I'm thinking about is the next move I need to make or how many more points until I get three stars.

I also like to play... [ She pauses as she tries to find a way to describe the games. ] Have you ever heard of I Spy?

[rememoror]

Hmm. I have a lot of nights like that. [ Where she can't get her brain to shut up. More than she ever really speaks about. She keeps some focus on the game. ] Perhaps this could be an option for then as well. [ Any option is a valid one to consider and this certainly hasn't been one until now.

She shakes her head. ] I can't say I have. I'm beginning to suspect I'm the Eternal that paid the least attention to the social aspect of...anything. What is it?

[fogsong]

[ Sharon had figured Thena might suffer from the same sort of sleepless nights. That's just what trauma does. She hopes the Eternal benefits from the games like she does. ]

It's just a game. You can play it with people, but there are books and little games on the relic that run under the same concept. It's all about finding something. My dad and I would play it a lot when we were moving. "I spy with my little eye something that is red or round or has four wheels." [ She smiles as she thinks back to those moments. It was often used to help her deal with the anxiety of it all. Always moving, always becoming someone new. ] They were my favorite books as a kid. Didn't need to play with anyone, just had the book, and the pictures, and a list of things to find. It's kinda the same on the relic, honestly.

[ Do not worry, Thena, Sharon will shoot you a list of game links so the you won't have to hunt for them ]

[ Who would have thought someone so much younger could offer so much decent advice? There's a gentle look of appreciation and even a flicker of admiration in Thena's expression-- a gratefulness that's hard to put into words. Outside of Gil few were so patient and kind with her situation. ]

Hmm, that does sound like a very good game to play while traveling. I imagine if Gil knew of it we'd have played a lot. [ He did something similar occasionally, tried to get her to focus on other things, but it wasn't exactly the same as this game sounds. ] Sprite occasionally would cast illusions for me to try, try to get me to find and remember the great feats that I'd accomplished so I could remember who I was. [ She turns her head over and gives a tiny smile. ] I spy with my little eyes a warrior leading King Arthur on a charge against Deviants invading Camelot.

[ She manages to chuckle there. ] I'll have to look into playing these games on the relic. Thank you.
