Truth Meme

Truth Meme

Somehow, there is kirin on you.

Most likely, it is the fur of the kirin that was caught in the environment of wherever you’ve been; there is a stray hair on you because one was on the seat you sat on upon the train or because it blew onto the brim of your hat in the wind.

Or it may be because you met the kirin—a playful ungulate moose-sized spirit who prefers not to speak—and engaged with him and gave him a pat, or a scratch behind an ear. Maybe the kirin nosed or licked your hand because you made him laugh (it’s an adorable ‘keh keh keh’ sound).

Unfortunately for both you and the kirin (who had not meant to trouble your day like this, truly), this exposure to his dander has only one reaction, and it happens to 100% of Star Children: you are compelled to tell the entire truth. About what is less specific; you are compelled simply to announce things about yourself—your life, experiences, thoughts, opinions, feelings. No matter if it’s something silly and inconsequential, deep or secretive, life-altering or commonplace. Some may choose to do this by employing Foxi and their relic; others by finding people to exchange truth with to face to face.

When you have met the kirin’s subconscious desire for four hours, you will be free from the truth telling and the recipient of 24 hours of good luck. The good luck will be sometime in the next year rather than in the next day, and you may have no idea where it came from, but you’ll know a lucky day when you have it!

  • Assume all characters involved on this meme are affected.
  • Characters will compulsively state truths about themselves/their feelings on the network or in-person. Top-levels may include either/both options.

  • All questions will be answered with complete and total honesty. No special abilities, half-truths, or omissions can avoid sharing all of the truth.
  • Meme is open until the next truth meme!
  • After one month, you may use the kirin mechanic generally in game. It can be one-sided! All truth-telling characters must consent.

That sounds fucked up. No offense to you and not wishing you dead, but at some point, you gotta let the dead go. Me? I'm still around in spirit, if not in a living breathing body. I haven't/hadn't left. And not in a revenant way. I wasn't a revenant.

The first time definitely counts. I was in a battle where I recovered from dying? Repeatedly? Like, that should be it, done dead as a door nail, but noooooope. We're still in this sticky gut-filled gory battlefield and going at it with the undead space wasps as large as you or me. It's less exciting than it sounds. More horrible grunting noises.

It's the only one I've been to, but I'm good here. No need to shop around.

Yep. Nine Houses. We're the Ninth.

No offense taken. It was fucked up. I didn't want to be brought back. Definitely not rebuilt the way he made me. But it's a complicated story. (Like most of my life) If your worlds revenants are like what I know of, it's good you're not one.

That sounds both disgusting and rather impressive at the same time. Also intensely unpleasant, dying repeatedly only to keep fighting undead space bugs. I swear space battles always seem more exciting in theory than they end up being. Did you win against them eventually?

I wouldn't recommend shopping around anyway, you usually just end up finding a lot of dystopias.

Sooooooo how'd he make you? (gross question, you don't have to answer). Just, the way you say it, the imagination might not be better.

It was a whole ass awkward situation. Lost a thumb only for it to grow back. That was my first sign. For a given definition of win? They didn't get us, so that's something. They weren't the main problem, and I wasn't involved in that. Something something scared it away or whatever.

Given how many shitty worlds people come from here, I am not surprised.

Imagination is probably worse. Complicated long story but when I died I wasn't in the body I was born in. It wasn't my choice or pleasant. When he brought me back, he chose to do it in that body rather than my original one. (I prefer not to think on what that means)

At least it grew back? Missing a thumb seems like it'd be inconvenient for sword fighting. I'll usually settle for the 'they didn't get us' definition of win. Some situations are just a take whatever you can get sort of thing. You sound like you lead quite the life though

[ Gideon understands not being in the body you were born in, though their situations likely weren't the same. Gideon glances toward Thoth, where Harrow is. ] How about Thirteen? Which body did she bring you here in?

It's sure preferable to dying. Someone died, but given I'd never really met him, it's hard to feel too torn up about it. The only time I thought I talked to him, it wasn't even him. Believe it or not, most my life was fairly boring. It just got exciting in the last year or so.

The same one my brother did. Can't say I haven't entertained the thought more than a few times of asking if she could put me back.

Fair. People can't expend all their energy being torn up about every death that happens. That has to be a swing to go from boring to all of that in a year or so. Do you miss the boring at all?

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-01-26 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm sure she could. Question is whether she would.

No, I do not miss the boring. I don't miss that life. It hardly feels like living. Ironic when I'll be unalive in the future.

Do you think she would? How would one go about asking?

Irony is evidently the spice of life.

Not sure. She could've turned me into a zombie upon arrival. That's pretty much the state my body was in at the time. I think. We were separated, my body and I. I was in a river that's not a river it's a whole soul thing that I couldn't explain if I wish. Point is I was body free, and pop she put me back this hot and beautiful way. You already had a body, so I get it, no need to mess with the mechanics. That said, pick whatever iteration you have the best rapport with or think most likely, go to office hours, and ask. IDK if it'd be like asking her to give you a power, except the power is your own ass body back, but hey she's given people powers.

Damn, and here I thought it was puns.

Thank you. That's certainly something to think about and something that would mean a lot to me if possible. My brother offered once but the price was a bit too high at the time. Even if it was very tempting. I'm not one to often trust all powerful beings but if it's possible maybe there's no harm in trying.

Fair point. Puns do come first. Do you have a favorite?

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-01-27 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Uuuuuuh, sorry, real curious. What was the price? Dick move, but hey your brother already sounded like a dick. There's always a risk making a deal with anyone, but hey, you can always ask people who've done shit with her before how it went for them. It's something.

I could never choose between my children. I love them equally. Also known as it changes all the time. Usually the last one I've thought of.

[personal profile] serendipitously 2025-01-28 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine, no need to say sorry. It's a long story, but he wanted me to agree to abandon my companion to join him and my twin brother in what amounts to the family business. Abandoning my companion would have meant his erasure from reality. Joining them permanently would have meant fully abandoning my people on Earth. The cost of being selfish in that instance was too high. I also didn't particularly love that my brother was attempting to hold that over me in such a way.

You mean ask on the network? That might be a decent idea to get a sample pool of how things went and if there have ever been any catches.

That's fair. I'd ask for one now but I don't want to put you on the spot.

Death, death, death, why's it always death? Jeez, has no one heard of amicable breakups? Selfish is a mild way of putting 'erasing someone from reality.' It might not hurt as much as whatever soul nonsense would make me not a zombie, but them not being around in some way to be pissed at you about it kinda makes it worse. It'd live in your head, and you could never get forgiveness. Your brother is a dick.

Network works. We gotta spread the lore somehow.

As soon as someone asks for a pun, suddenly none exist. None have ever existed. None will ever exist in the universe. It's how that goes.
serendipitously: (psylocke48_2)

[personal profile] serendipitously 2025-01-28 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, that's his justification for it not being so bad. 'Erase from reality' is a step above death. It quite literally uses a machine to painfully rip a person apart from the fabric of reality as if they never existed. All memories of them would cease to be.

In essence it's something that would be done to everyone else as well as my companion, tampering with all of our minds to forget him while also killing him.

He also used my memories of certain events to judge that this sort of punishment was justified to enact, which I'm rather pissed about. He can be a dick, both of them can be, but I know they were just trying to do what they thought was best for me.

Perhaps I'll post and ask one night when I'm particularly bored and low on lore.

Isn't it?

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-01-31 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck "what is best for you." There's nothing YOU could do that justifies painfully killing another person and altering the memories of everyone they've ever interacted with. Fuck your brother. Fuck any wah wah understanding of your brother. He can piss off and die. Or better yet, how about everyone forgets about him. That'd be fitting.

I feel some need to defend them, but in this instance I can't think of anything that makes it remotely right. Its one of the few times I've ever really turned against them.

I'm just grateful I was able to break him out and bargain with an Ogre for an antidote before the process took.
necrosavior: (Default)

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-02-02 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you need to defend them? Blood and family doesn't make an excuse for that shit.

Glad that worked out. Eesh.
serendipitously: (Default)

[personal profile] serendipitously 2025-02-02 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I always feel an innate need to defend both of them. It's been my job for quite a long time to clean up after my older brother and to try and make excuses for the things he's done. That's just what you do with family.
necrosavior: (mood; stubborn)

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-02-04 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
That might be what YOU do with family, but you should reexamine that and take a long deep look at stopping your brothers from fucking up people's lives rather than cleaning up after the fact. That's what you do with family.
serendipitously: (psylocke244)

[personal profile] serendipitously 2025-02-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're not wrong. Sometimes you do have to make the choice to stop them first. Or to take steps back from family all together when they're fucking other's lives up too much. Or your own.

But all of those things are hard to do.
necrosavior: (mood; stubborn)

[personal profile] necrosavior 2025-02-05 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard. Do it anyway. Otherwise you're saying your comfort or discomfort is more important than other people's lives.
