Truth Meme

Truth Meme

Somehow, there is kirin on you.

Most likely, it is the fur of the kirin that was caught in the environment of wherever you’ve been; there is a stray hair on you because one was on the seat you sat on upon the train or because it blew onto the brim of your hat in the wind.

Or it may be because you met the kirin—a playful ungulate moose-sized spirit who prefers not to speak—and engaged with him and gave him a pat, or a scratch behind an ear. Maybe the kirin nosed or licked your hand because you made him laugh (it’s an adorable ‘keh keh keh’ sound).

Unfortunately for both you and the kirin (who had not meant to trouble your day like this, truly), this exposure to his dander has only one reaction, and it happens to 100% of Star Children: you are compelled to tell the entire truth. About what is less specific; you are compelled simply to announce things about yourself—your life, experiences, thoughts, opinions, feelings. No matter if it’s something silly and inconsequential, deep or secretive, life-altering or commonplace. Some may choose to do this by employing Foxi and their relic; others by finding people to exchange truth with to face to face.

When you have met the kirin’s subconscious desire for four hours, you will be free from the truth telling and the recipient of 24 hours of good luck. The good luck will be sometime in the next year rather than in the next day, and you may have no idea where it came from, but you’ll know a lucky day when you have it!

  • This meme is game canon unless marked otherwise at the start of threads! Threads can be used for spoons and application samples.
  • Assume all characters involved on this meme are affected.
  • Characters will compulsively state truths about themselves/their feelings on the network or in-person. Top-levels may include either/both options.
  • Please include prompts in your top level.
  • All questions will be answered with complete and total honesty. No special abilities, half-truths, or omissions can avoid sharing all of the truth.
  • Meme is open until the next truth meme!
  • After one month, you may use the kirin mechanic generally in game. It can be one-sided! All truth-telling characters must consent.

Not at all, they're all heroes. It's more a matter of my people having kept ourselves separate from them back home.

Do you wouldn't have shared experiences between each other? That would be the big benefit one'd assume.

We would. There in lies some of the problem.

An event came to be in our world that they reference as the Blip. There were many great battles fought in an attempt to prevent it from happening. My fellow Eternals and I were instructed to stay out of it and so we did. Had we intervened, perhaps things would have been vastly different.

I would not blame any from my world for thinking that or resenting that we existed and did nothing to aid them.

Ah yeah that would complicate matters, wouldn't it?

Do you feel guilt for that?

Guilt cannot change what's already been done, but yes, I do.

Of course it doesn't change it. Guilt's worth nothing to anyone, I say as the world's most impotently guilty man. It colors your own experience, of yourself and of talking to those other guys

World's most seems like an exceedingly large title to give yourself. I cannot imagine what one might have done to bring on such an amount of guilt.

You are correct though, it does color things in a way. Though the reasoning also centers around keeping the peace. I hardly want to give them more reasons to think of what could have been in a place like this.

The key word there is "impotent," not "most" actually. It just means I'm the type to be hung up on things which could never have been changed. At least as long as I'm me (or at least who I was five, six years ago)

- Couldn't the assumption of it breaking peace be a matter of guilt talking? Rather than whatever they think? or has hostility been implied?

My apologies for not catching the key words then. How are you so certain these things could not have been changed?

No, you're correct, it could be. The few I have met have been far too understanding than I would have ever expected. Only one was outright hostile.

Because I was still me back then. An even younger and more inexperienced me than I am now - so there's no way I would ever make a choice other than the one I made. It just also wasn't the right choice to make. Regrets are like that, you know?

Huh

That batting average's good but if someone was hostile I'd get the hesitance

[personal profile] rememoror 2025-01-31 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Does that imply the more experienced 'you' of now would make a different choice?

'Batting average'?

Probably not.

I mean I'd like to think I would but I also don't like thinking about it, because that implies I *could* have done something else. But I don't think I would have, because I don't think I've learned all that much. At least emotionally.

It's a term that was used back on Earth - honestly I don't know how it's calculated or anything but it means something like "if only one person got mad then the statistics are looking good for you"

Perhaps it's good you're here in that case. If the Fox is to be believed, our purpose is to grow as people. Based on the nature of many of these...things she does to us, I assume her focus is often on emotional growth.

Ah, I understand now, thank you. I'm afraid some of the more modern terms used on Earth go a bit past me, but I'm trying to pick more up.

Yeah, so it seems.

I believe that's its intention, I just don't know if it understands people

I mean define modern, really. I'm at least a decade out of date myself

You believe the Fox does not understand people? What's taken you to that conclusion?

Anything from the last five hundred years.

I just don't see how it could. The ethics of his its handled this situation we've been put in and the trials, and just given *what* it is? I just don't see how it could understand people.

Five hundred?

Oh wow you're quite ancient then
