August-September 2024 TDM
Introduction
Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Test Drive Meme! Please feel free to test drive any and all characters regardless of your intent to apply or whether you have an invite or not.
All TDMs are game canon and work like "mini-events". For new players and characters, you can choose to have your TDM thread be your introduction thread upon acceptance or start fresh. Current players are also allowed to have in-game characters post to the TDM so long as they mark their top levels โCurrent Character.โ
TDM threads can be used for spoon spending at any time by characters accepted into the game.
Playing and interacting with the TDMs will allow characters to immediately obtain a canon item from home, especially weapons or other things they may have had on their person when they were pulled from their worlds! There will always be a prompt that provides some sort of "reward" to characters who complete certain tasks.
๐ฆ New Star Children meet the Fox still in their worlds, and she brings them into the new realm of Folkmore. As you follow her, your body begins to change and new characteristics emerge. These may stay for a while, or perhaps they will hide away after. And during all of this, the Fox explains to you where you will be going: to Folkmore.
and then... you fall like a shooting star, falling to the land in a burst of starlight.
๐ฆ Experienced Star Children are already familiar with this time of the month. There are shooting stars all across the sky, and some fall to the land, which means the Fox has brought new arrivals. These newly arrived Star Children will face some tests, but Thirteen wants the more seasoned residents to participate as well.
Perhaps you follow the falling stars on your own, or perhaps the Fox simply teleports you there, but it appears you too will be part of this.
Content Warnings: Potential Wilderness Survival, Potential Death
New Star Children arrive in Amrita Academy, the largest school in Folkmore. They might arrive in the medical wing, or they could arrive in areas of the school that don't look like a school at all: forests with animals to hunt or gather, including for their medicinal properties; rocky crags with climbing routes; fields full of growing grains; meadows with sheep covered in soft wool; lakes and rivers with unusual denizens. It's like a miniature of Folkmore all in one school.
A fox with a clipped ear and a few scars greets each Star Child upon arrival. She explains that while things can be summoned with Lore, the best survivors learn to scavenge and to find what they need. New Star Children haven't earned much Lore yet, so that surely applies to them double. In fact, as befits a survival school, there are items that will help Star Children survive hidden all around and immediately outside the school. Star Children are directed to make a list on their Relic of everything they think they need to survive. Once made, the list cannot be changed. They will be more likely to find those items than others (though it will not be impossible).
Race, jog, or stroll around the expansive school in search of these items: clothes, bags, first aid kits, tents, survival supplies, etc. They might be harder to find than expected as they will be miniature and in little cubes aka survival squares (a misnomer). These cubes may be tucked away above, below, beside, or inside something. They also may float against a rock face or in the air among tree branches. The most likely locations are those densest in Lore. The longer Star Children explore, the more they will realize that these cubes are best and most easily obtained by working together. In fact, they will try to dodge and avoid the grip of a Star Child more than ten feet away from any other Star Child. Perhaps that's because two Star Children interacting are creating Lore and a Lore dense location? Once two Star Children touch the cube at the same time, the cube will disappear, and the item inside will grow to full size. Congratulations on being one step closer to survival. Remember to share.
Come mid-September, few cubes will remain inside the school. Star Children will have to check the perimeter of the school to find more survival squares. That task grows exponentially harder as the cubes are in the molasses-thick moat of concentrated Lore surrounding the school. Should anyone dip their spoon in the moat, in the Lorasses if you will, they will find that it tastes sweet, a rich spicy sweetness. Amazing! Less amazing? It is impossible to get past the moat of Lorasses. No matter how strong a swimmer or oarsman, it is impossible to make headway through or atop the Lorasses. Anyone attempting to fly across the moat will find themselves slapped by a giant sticky slappy hand rising like a goliath from the depths with perfect aim. Star Children can find themselves slapped anywhere from the shore to the center of the school. Star Children are free to get creative with ways to dig the survival squares out of the Lorasses, but beware! They'll have difficulty freeing themselves on their own from the sticky substance, should they fall in.
Since Star Children are likely to find themselves in sticky situations quite literally, they may be pleased to know that Amrita Academy has showers available for use. Unfortunately, due to one student's experiment, the shampoo is all made of beer. That's right, beer. It's good for one's hair! Or so the study should demonstrate. Be sure to fill out a feedback card outside the locker rooms.

- All new Star Children arrive in Amrita Academy.
- Star Children are greeted by a fox who prompts them to write a list of what they need to survive. These lists cannot be changed once made.
- Star Children search for tiny cubes with survival supplies, especially ones on their lists.
- Star Children must work together to catch & open the cubes.
- Come mid-September, Amrita Academy is surrounded by a Lore-rich molasses moatโLorasses. Thou shalt not pass.
- Once the moat arrives, most cubes are in the moat. Shower to get clean afterward with beer for shampoo.
Content Warnings: Forced Close Contact, Coerced Behavior
It can be stressful to arrive in a new place among strangers and strange things. It can be even more stressful, sometimes, to be among people one knows. The fact remains that in Folkmore, no one is an island. The Shattered Spoon Shrine is a testament to that. Interact or perish. Those interactions usually don't even have to be positive. An emotionally charged argument generates Lore same as a touching reunion. However, Amrita's iteration has taken charge of Folkmore this month. She values cooperation and connection.
What does this mean for Star Children? It's time to get along.
When Star Children fightโphysically, vocally, emotionallyโthey get stuck together in a magical t-shirt. This plain white t-shirt has 'This is our get along shirt' written on it on both sides, one in each Star Child's handwriting. (If a Star Child does not have handwriting, Thirteen will invent a handwriting she feels best represents them). The shirt works exactly as written on the tin. Until the two Star Children can get along, they will be stuck together in the shirt. Getting along can look a few different ways. It could be working through the reason they were fighting. It could be cooperating to accomplish something else. It could be helping someone else together. It could be large or small. Somehow, Star Children will have to get along to accomplish something.
The shirt will disappear, leaving them standing next to each other, only to reappear duplicated in each of their hands, perfectly sized to fit each individual. Should they so choose, either can be used for a repeat performance, with both of them trapped inside again. While the same condition will applyโthey must get along to get out of the shirtโthe shirt will now make it easier for them to work it out. Note: only the two people who originally wore the shirt can put it back on. No one else can wear these shirts.
One time only, a Star Child's cooperative escape will have an additional prize: their souvenir t-shirt will be wrapped around an item from either their home universe or their partner's. That's right, getting along can get a Star Child something from another universe.

- The shirt says โThis is our get along shirtโ front and back in charactersโ own handwriting (or imagined handwriting).
- As written on the tin, Star Children are stuck until they figure out how to get along
- When they separate, both partners will get a copy of the t-shirt that fits them. They can choose to get back into said t-shirt together to figure out how to get along easier in the future.
- One time only, Star Children receive an item from their home universe or their partnerโs.

survival { And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
Her steps are silent, with bare feet somehow avoiding the disturbance of any loose twigs or flora in the woods, but the train of her dress may brush across any fallen leaves in her path as she follows her senses to the nearest Star Child. One isn't far. She can smell them before she hears the huffs of frustration.
From the shade of one of the larger trees, pale blue eyes watch with a gentle glow, observing what appears at first glance to be something of a lost cause.
Whatever the woman is attempting to knock downโa cube?โis doing well to elude her. It must be important. There's always a quest, or a test, or some way that the Fox insists on wasting energy.
More than willing to ease the stark transitions for any new arrivals as best she can, Vanessa lifts a pale hand to rest against the tree trunk, then reaches for the nearest branch as though preparing to climb. Her nearing presence, however, seems enough to cause the cube in question to fall from the branch and dart in the other direction. It's enough to bewilder her back into stillness, as though she had just frightened a bird she was hoping to pet. ]
no subject
'Oh', Rose breathes, hand stopping where it was aimed to throw another stone at the cube (a task she surely should have given up on by now, but the border between resilience and frustration is a thin one, and some part of her just needs to unleash some of her upset. She's somewhere new and impossible, again, and Sharon isn't beside her, and she wonders if she is damned to lose her daughter again and again. She could scream, but it will do no good. Soโ chucking rocks it is.)
Until a pair of pale blue eyes is peering at her, and the woman's white arm is moving up, and Rose slowly lowers the stone to her side, then lets it drop to the ground below, watching. Immediately, the cube does the same thing as it had to her โ whisked away like some invisible hand's pulled it back. She can see that it's startled the other woman as much as it had startled herself when it'd happened, and so she manages a soft, humourless echo of a laugh. )
At least it isn't just me that it doesn't like.
( Speaking about the thing like it's some nervous animal. But it's difficult to focus on her troubles with this ridiculous scavenger's hunt in the face of the mysterious new stranger โ from the way she's dressed to those eyes, she's almost inhumanly beautiful, something that could only be described as ethereal. It's striking, to suddenly be in the company of such a person, and Rose can't help staring. The question she asks next may seem foolish, but she's still grappling with all of this, and with the kinds of people who call this place home. )
Do you... You live here?

Arrival
[That's when he spies Rose, it would appear; he pauses mid-stride, his weight off his back foot. He'll draw himself up taller, gazing at her almost as if for the first time. So much time has passed for him that it feels like a first impression.]
Rose?
[A throaty, cultured baritone with a hint of a Transatlantic accent; perhaps she has some recollection of it and the strange, quietly menacing man attached to it.]
[Memories flood through Wesker's mind like the tides of the Pthumerian Sea: meeting in the Tower's domain, when she found him buried in a pile of body bags, their encounters and conversations, his connection with Sharon, training the girl to defend herself, and most painfully, if someone like him can still experience the pain of the heart, discovering Rose had returned to the sea.]
I could say something clever about that being the question so many of us ask, but somehow I doubt that's what you had in mind.
no subject
Then someone says her name.
'Rose?'
She turns her head to face the man, mouth open in a shock that only grows when she takes him in. Even with those sunglasses on his face he's immediately recognisable, and something up under her sternum hitches. )
Dr. Wesker?
( Oh yes, she remembers him, and the sight of someone familiar has her taking a step forward to counter the one she'd taken backwards. She does cast a quick, uncertain glance to his strange companion, but it's Wesker that she needs to focus on, so she does. )
You're here. Are you.... all right?
( She could mean a thousand things with that, means it any way he can take it. )

Rose? It's Sansa. I'm Sharon's friend.
[but her memories of rose are mixed up with sharon's memories from the book, and the future vision they had from bausphomette. she doesn't remember when rose went back to the sea, if it was before or after her big announcement. she pauses.]
I hope I've told you that I'm Sansa, and not Alayne.

RDS. Silent Hill. Rose, Rose, Rose. No one else would think to use those initials. Not Vincent's bitch of a mother. Not her aunt. Not Dahlia. ]
Are those your initials? RDS? [ Sharon's not sure which feels most foolish: the hope or the fear. ]

What does that mean?
Does it matter? She'll answer honestly, no matter if it may be somewhat foolish to out herself in this place of so many unknowns. She could be putting herself in danger. She doesn't care. )
Yes. My name is Rose Da Silva.
I was trapped in that place. I'm not sure if I might be again.

He swoops in, gliding as he grasps the escaping cube, then lands in front of her, offering a smile. ]
Trying to get this? [ He holds it out to the stranger with a charming smile. ]

....But all that said, the sight still has her mouth opening as she watches him swoop down, eyes widening in surprise. When she's offered the cube, she reaches slowly for it โ and thinks she sees it quivering, like it might try to leap away again, but as soon as she places her hand upon the thing while his is also on it, it finally stays still. Only to abruptly vanish, and in its place is a generous water canteen. Rose gasps, taking the thing into both hands, baffled and appreciative all at once. )
Thank you. ( Despite her surprise, she sounds genuinely grateful, the waves of her frustration halted by one problem being fixed so suddenly. )

Sure enough his trap worked and he silently watched as Rose chased the cube into his tree. Just a little closer. He watched in amusement when she switched to tossing stones at the cube instead. It reminded him of when Sharon tried to get him down from the windmill. He decided to take mercy on her and he announced his presence with a quiet chuckle.]
You're going to be here all night at that rate.

Rose drops most of the stones from her palm, but keeps hold of one. It's instinct more than a conscious decision, but her fingers tighten on the thing. It's all she has. No weapons, no means to defend herself. )
Who's there?
( She squints in the direction that voice had come from, all dark shadows. She's not fearless, her voice trembles just slightly at the edges, but she's determined, jaw set, eyes hard. She's not someone who will go down without a fight. ...And she's more than a little paranoid at this point, thinking any voice from the shadows could be a threat. )

I could probably use it. Sitting down, I mean.
( She breathes out a soft sound that's not quite a laugh, still feeling rattled and a bit dizzied by all of this. There's a nearby little seating area, and the woman moves to claim one of the armchairs, placing one hand to her forehead for a moment as she tries to gather herself. )

As he came through the trees, he spotted a familiar face, and his eyes lit up in happiness. No longer were they the Sith yellow they had always been. Now, his eyes were grey, the color they had once been in his childhood and had returned to once he'd began to let go of some of his eternal anger.
Still, he had to make sure that this was truly the same Rose he'd encountered in Trench rather than a double, as had so often happened here. He moved forward, slowly, so that she wouldn't get startled if she wasn't used to his appearance.]
