PANDORA'S FOX III

The application Pandora's Fox, last seen buzzing on everyone's relics in October, is back. It's about finding your Familiar bond or perhaps other kinds of bonds. It could be the start to finding your soul mate, a new family member, or other kind of someone special. The point is connection. While it's always available, it's gotten loud again.

As part of its return, the app has been rejiggered with questions old and new, including some specific to each Role! The app will buzz and open itself with a blank profile waiting to be filled out. Star Children can fill it out for themselves—as long as they don't lie. This app will not allow Star Children to lie. Honesty is important in a bond. Star Children who lie may find that answer filled in a little too honestly and unable to be deleted. Anyone who waits too long to fill it in will find it answered for them!

Bonds come in all different shapes and sizes, so find the right person for you!

so what IS labeling theory?

In very simple terms it is that stigma is defined as a powerfully negative label that changes a person's self-image and social identity.

For example, if you are labeled a criminal you will behave like a criminal because it is a self-fulfilling prophecy and it is what society expects of you.

It's heavily based on studies on the social construction of deviant behavior and how that deviance is defined by the larger social order.

it can work in a good way too though, can't it? like if someone says you're a hero enough times you might start to believe it

i guess it depends on how easily swayed you are by what people say
and maybe also who's saying it
if a stranger tells me i'm a good person that's way less believable than if someone *i* respect says it

But that stranger may be more inclined to call you that if there is a public perception of you as such.

i wonder why thirteen does the categories thing with us. like is our potential supposed to fall in line with our roles, do we have to stay here forever if we resist the whole hero/anti-hero/support job, is that a test she's running us through and she actually wants us to defy it...

It seems likely that it's some sort of test. Another Trial but this one is day-to-day.

that's a good way of thinking about it. that's probably what the bonds are for anyway, right? a familiar and a legend or myth... they're made to support

it'd be nice if myths and legends could connect like that too, i think. they'd sort of balance each other out.

But we don't need a mystical, magical bond to do these things. Humans are social. We'll form bonds just because we want to. I don't see the incentive to these familiar bonds besides what? More power?

If we never wanted these powers or these labels in the first place why would we bother?

I thought I should be honest about the bond thing. It seems important.

I was honest in mine. I still don’t know what the benefit of bonding is. I don’t think I’d want to commit to something like that with someone else unless I felt very strongly about them.

Well, yeah, it seems like the sort of thing that requires a lot of trust.

But also, what happens if your bond person goes home? The bond doesn't trap them here with you does it?

That’s a great question that I’m sure Thirteen won’t answer.

Maybe the bond breaks and then the person left here is bereft.

And things are hard enough here with the Trials. I'm not sure it's worth doing that to someone.
