Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme, April Fools edition! See, Thoth learned about April Fools from reading Chaucer but enjoys that it's an ongoing thing. Thoth's switched things up. Initial messages (aka top levels)—all set April 1st ICly—maaaaay go to the wrong person! So not all hell breaks loose, replies carry forward with whoever you've reached, but you might be texting your innermost intoxicated or sleep deprived secret to someone you don't even know.

If you'd like to opt out of misfires, please include this in your top level (by prompt or overall). Otherwise, enjoy indulging Thoth's amusement and building some new CR.

This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. [ This… This comes as a shock and Diluc kind of just automatically falls into the nearest chair. Did he entirely misread his and Kaeya’s interactions? If Kaeya is interested in someone else… And he’s been sparring with someone else??

Of course he shouldn’t be so surprised, probably. It has been two years for him here. ]

Ah. Well. If you are certain he feels the same way… perhaps you should then? I did not know you could still be shy.

[By the seven, Diluc wasn’t meant to see this. Well, no helping it now. Maybe he can talk about things without saying it directly.]

I’m just complaining. It is better that I wait. He has some things to figure out. I’m ready, but he might not be. I can’t let the pressure of lost time guide my hand. You know?

[ The room is spinning and Diluc feels very lightheaded. He has to put the relic down and take several deep breaths with a hand on his forehead before he can properly read Kaeya’s message. He still thinks this was intended for him and is about some mystery man Kaeya hasn’t mentioned yet.

It takes him a while yet to reply, constantly deleting his words and rewriting them. He’s overthinking. ]

No. I don’t. You have been here for almost two years. That is a lot of time lost already.

I would… caution you that forming such close bonds here with those not from Teyvat could be needlessly painful. I know I probably do not need to say it but in case it needs reminding…

[That sounds. He takes a moment to really think about his approach. Honesty has gotten him through this time. He types and decides.]

The relics are sending messages to the wrong people. This was meant to go to a friend of mine here. You do have a lot to figure out first, D.

But you’re right. Forming close bonds here could be painful. I’ve lost a lot of friends here to their returning to their homes. I hope such unkindness doesn’t strike some of the lovers here. My friend among them. She is happy here. The way she wasn’t in her world.

[ For a moment — once he gets up the nerve to look at Kaeya’s message, having expected his warning to be met with animosity — he just stares at it, for a while, not really comprehending what he’s reading. Kaeya slipped it in there quite casually. Diluc almost didn’t notice. It takes him a couple more rereads before it finally fully registers.

“You do have to figure out a lot first, D.”

So… That means then… ]

[ But he does feel… really stupid. ]

…It feels like we shouldn’t have this conversation like this.

[Dear archons, they are stupid. He is has been more aware of his own. But Diluc? Well. He can be single minded…]

[ Diluc is… well, quick to welcome disappointment, still afraid as ever as feeling the crushing weight of loss.

But this… this doesn’t quite feel real. It’s as though his mind won’t accept it. He’s taking too long to answer Kaeya. ]

‘Went for a walk around the lakes…

[ He figures out how to send his exact location. ]

[Patience. He had to remind himself that he has to be patient. It is true Diluc needs to figure some things out. He wasn’t far from the lakes.

He turns into a wolf and takes off. The world flies by as he leaps over a fallen tree. The water is beautiful at this time of day. He spots Diluc walking on the shore and darts to him. But as he gets within ten feet he is human again. He slows until he can match his pace, not even breathing hard.]

So, let’s talk. Hit me with what’s on your mind. I’ll share the same.

[ Diluc had gotten back up to… anxiously pace, really, rather than go back to his walking. When he hears footfalls behind him, he looks back to see Kaeya and his heart jumps into his throat, his stomach suddenly in knots.

It’s him. Kaeya meant him. So… he isn’t reading too into everything. He isn’t imagining the looks and the hidden little meanings behind everything Kaeya says. They are attracted to each other.

After a bit of walking together, Diluc finally stops abruptly and grabs Kaeya’s arm. His eyes flash a yellow-green. Gods, this such a… stupid, stupid idea. But Kaeya is waiting on him and he’s been waiting, Diluc suspects, for much longer than two years. ]

You’re right. I do feel the same. I…

[ He swallows dryly, sighs, his fingers flexing nervously on Kaeya’s sleeve. He can’t look the other man in the eye. ]

…I shouldn’t. But I do. I keep turning everything that’s happened since I arrived here over and over in my mind and— I know you’re keeping something from me again. And I don’t blame you for not telling me right away. I know it means a lot to you. I know it’s hard for you to say. So don’t.

I don’t want to hurt you again, Kaeya. I’ve done it too often already. But I…

[ I miss you. How do you tell someone you miss them when you’re the one who said goodbye in the first place? ]

It used to be hard to say. But it isn’t anymore. [That is the honest truth that rings like a bell in a quiet field. He covers the hand on his sleeve and looks at Diluc. There is no surprise on his face. He got the answer he expected to hear.]

That’s not the point about why I’m waiting. Yes, we’ve hurt each other. We’ve also helped each other. United against something because we both believed in opposing it. Even if you never say anything or want to discuss it, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. Just being by your side is enough.

Don’t pressure yourself to speak or sort through things. My truest wish for you is for you to be happy. In whatever way you decide to have that.

[It hurts a little to consider Diluc finding that happiness with someone else. But he could deal with that agony as long as Diluc was at peace. He breathes through the thought and says softly,] I’m not happy the relic sent you frustrations instead of who I meant to vent to. It’s exactly because I knew you’d hurt yourself trying to answer that I’ve said nothing. Please, take all the time you need. I’ll be here, always.

[He reaches out and lightly brushes Diluc’s hair away from his eyes.] But if you decide to hear me out, brace yourself. There’s a side of me I don’t show anyone. Ice can be just as intense as any flame.

[ It feels like being torn open, the protective shell around his heart ripped open to expose all his emotions to the sky. The more Kaeya explains, the harder it gets for Diluc to breathe. His throat is so dry, his pulse fast and loud in his ears, and all he can think about is how… how he knows what it is Kaeya hasn’t told him yet.

He’s been here before. He’s died here before. He’s… loved Kaeya here before.

Diluc can’t remember any of it, but Kaeya does and every moment is seared into his heart, burned into his memories. And the longing he can feel from the other man in all of their fleeting intimate looks and touches, in all the brief stolen moments their emotions have wrested from their reservations and sense, is more than an accumulation of their years separated from one another on Teyvat. How much time has Kaeya been mourning the loss of? The thought of how much pain Kaeya has been put through because of the Fox and how many sweet, happy memories she’s taken from Diluc has Diluc’s blood boiling.

And before he can stop himself, he reaches out to cup Kaeya’s cheek and press his lips to his in a soft kiss. ]

[He melts into the kiss. He gently rests his hands on Diluc’s shoulders. He keeps the kiss light. This is what he’s been given and he will take just this.

But his tail curls around the back of Diluc’s leg. He waits to pull back only after Diluc does. He touches the side of his face, stroking his thumb over his cheek.] …I’ll only ask for what you’re comfortable giving. Remember, there’s no rush.

[ When Diluc does break the gentle kiss, his eyes are practically glittering like red gems in the sunlight, a lovely mix of ruby with bright golden flecks. His expression is soft, eyes heavy-lidded. ]

Th-That… That was…

[ Amazing, in short, and it’s obvious exactly how that kiss was for him by how he’s breathless despite the tenderness of the gesture of affection. Diluc’s cheeks are warm and flushed under Kaeya’s thumb, his eyes fluttering as he struggles to decide what part of the other man’s face to focus on. His beautiful eye? His pretty lips that taste crisp and sweet, refreshing as a cool drink on a summer’s day. Diluc’s entire body is tingling. He feels intoxicated and he runs his hands slowly down Kaeya’s body to come to rest on his hips.

He takes a deep, shaky breath and rests his forehead against the other man’s, licking his lips, clearly savoring the lingering sensations of that kiss. ]

You wanted me to make a move… Gods…

[He wraps his arms around him, grinning.] With my history, it was only fair.

[The red and gold, a bit like a flame. What a beautiful change to the eyes.

He leans into him. He feels like a starving man that was given enough of what he is craving. It’s small. But all he ever needed was this. He cradles the side of Diluc’s face, his voice gone low and deep.] Now does this mean it’s okay to kiss you?

[ Kaeya’s grin and the way he puts his arms around him causes a flutter in Diluc’s stomach. It’s impossible for him not to slide his hands further around his hips, resting them at the small of his back, welcoming Kaeya close. He shuts his eyes and leans his face into Kaeya’s hand, sighing slowly, enjoying the gently intimate touch. He hasn’t had such affection from someone in such a long time and Kaeya being the one to give it to him makes something in him tremble. ]

I… Yes.

[He never got that fairy tale first kiss. But, he wants it. He leans in and kisses him. He keeps it light.

His hand stays on the side of Diluc’s face. It is like the brush of a butterfly’s wing. It isn’t like he’s read about in stories. But it is magical in its own way. He waits for Diluc to be a little breathless before he breaks the kiss.

He leans his forehead against his.] …I won’t be greedy about it until you’re ready to hear me out.

[He has to be patient. A slow burn with maybe a few kisses along the way.]

[ Diluc feels his heartbeat rocket skywards as Kaeya moves in close to kiss him and for a moment he feels a little as though he might pass out because of how fast it’s going. As soon as Kaeya’s lips touch his though, all that passes and only the sensations of the other man’s kiss remain. He runs his hands up along Kaeya’s slender, strong back and sighs wistfully into it, wishing the moment would last forever.

He knows it isn’t really their first and he’ll be angry about the fact that all his memories of their firsts were taken from him, but there’s time enough for it later. Right now, all that matters is Kaeya.

…Who gets right back to talking again as soon as he gently breaks the kiss. Diluc is still breathless from the kissing and Kaeya is trying to be reasonable about this. He has to reach up with a hand to press his fingertips to the other man’s lips to quiet him. ]

Kaeya.

[ He says softly, leaning forward to affectionately, lightly brush his nose against the other man’s smooth cheek. His voice is low, laced with desire, and he’s still looking at him like he’s seeing him for the first time in so, so long with those warm ruby-gold eyes. ]

…Stop talking.

[ Right now, he just wants to relish their closeness, the touches full of love, and the comforting warmth between them. He just wants to say “I miss you” and “I’m sorry” at once without disturbing the air with his clumsy words. ]

[The best part of being half wolf all the time is he doesn’t have to make a hand gesture. His ears move back then forward to acknowledge Diluc’s request. His blood is burning from the desires roiling within. A look like that from Diluc always leaves him weak in the knees.

He wraps his arms back around him. This is everything he needed. He shifts his tail around the back if Diluc’s legs and drags his fingers down his back to nestle them comfortably on the muscled back he so loves to admire. But like requested he doesn’t say anything.]

[ The tail’s possessive action doesn’t go unnoticed and once again Diluc finds himself secretly pleased to feel it. He rubs Kaeya’s shoulders and the sides of his neck, warmth from his Vision running through his fingers as he kneads into the other man’s muscles. He’s looking Kaeya’s face and upper body over as he touches him. True they’ve been this close that day he arrived and Kaeya nestled into his lap, but he was too nervous then to really take his time savoring the sight of him.

Like this though, he can take his time enjoying the other man’s beauty and Diluc has always found Kaeya exceptionally beautiful. As he does, his heart swells with all the things he wants to say, all the feelings he has for Kaeya that he’s hidden for so many years. He doesn’t speak any of them aloud though. Maybe he can communicate them through looks and touches. Because Kaeya is correct— there is a lot he has to grapple with still; he’s not entirely convinced that what he’s doing is right after everything he’s done, let alone that they won’t hurt each other horribly all over again if they become so intertwined in each other’s lives like they once were. More than they once were, even.

Diluc doesn’t want to think about it though. He just wants to relish the smoothness of Kaeya’s skin against his fingers, the softness of his lips and how they taste. Right now, he just wants to give Kaeya reassurance that, yes, he is loved. He’s always loved him still. He lowers his head and presses his face against the point of his jaw, down into his neck and breathing deeply as he holds a hand against the back of his head, his body shaking lightly. He kisses Kaeya’s cheek, as close as he dares to get to the eyepatch he knows covers a scar, then begins to rub one of his ears as they hold each other close. ]

[It’s like coming home to gently trace the strong back. He drags fingers through long red hair. It’s as soft as he remembered. He almost chokes on all the emotions welling up within him. He tucks his face against him while Diluc does the same.

He holds onto him. Diluc needs to know that he can just be in his hands. His love has a lot to work through and he can and will be patient for that work. The wisdom he’s earned from having a relationship before lies where he left it. He won’t pick it back up until they’re ready to walk forward together.

He sighs, relaxing. But his hold remains possessive. Diluc is his and he is his. And as much as he would love to bare it all. He won’t take off the eyepatch until Diluc can handle seeing the scar again. He hugs him to him, making no attempt to hide how he breathes in his scent. The familiar tones of it soothe him.

His hands move in gentle circles on his back. It occurs to him that he never asked to work the tension out of Diluc’s back before. Well, this time he’ll ask sometime.]

[ The fingers that run through his hair and trace idle shapes on his back make Diluc shiver. After a time of them simply enjoying the embrace, he lifts his head to give Kaeya’s lips another gentle kiss. It feels like such magic to him. Sparks fly. There’s no awkwardness in this, though by rights he should be terrified. It feels… easy and gods know nothing in their lives has been easy lately.

Diluc runs the back of his hand down Kaeya’s face, turning it over to then cup his chin softly and press his thumb to those lips he can’t seem to get enough of. He spends a moment feeling lost in one lovely blue eye. He asks quietly finally: ]

…What do you have planned today?

[He lightly closes his teeth around the thumb. A gentle nip before he stops teasing. Archons he missed this. He mulls over the question.]

I was planning for a lazy day. There’s a nice spot in Lapine woods to practice my easiest shifts. We could grab lunch and make a day of it.

[ The little love bite makes Diluc’s breath catch in his throat. It shows in how his eyes flash hot pink for a moment. He has to forcibly get his lungs working again. ]

Then let’s go.

[ I want to just be with you today. It’s unspoken, but… Kaeya seems to understand. And it’s comforting that some things don’t need to be said. He gives Kaeya’s neck a shy little kiss, as if in retaliation for being teased. ]
