Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme, April Fools edition! See, Thoth learned about April Fools from reading Chaucer but enjoys that it's an ongoing thing. Thoth's switched things up. Initial messages (aka top levels)—all set April 1st ICly—maaaaay go to the wrong person! So not all hell breaks loose, replies carry forward with whoever you've reached, but you might be texting your innermost intoxicated or sleep deprived secret to someone you don't even know.

If you'd like to opt out of misfires, please include this in your top level (by prompt or overall). Otherwise, enjoy indulging Thoth's amusement and building some new CR.

This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

So you decided to conquer a people without knowing much about them. Lovely.

When I was 'disagreed with', I very often meant they killed members of my clan, or allies, or tried to kill me.

Granted, I when did spend my tenure as Duchess trying to shift that more towards disagreeing with words.

It was not personal. Not entirely anyway. When I found out Kenobi's connection to your planet, the opportunity was just too good to pass up and incorporate as part of my revenge scheme.

Disagreeing with words is something many of my friends have tried to push me towards and with only limited success.

Did you find any sort of peace or healing in it? Or merely a moment of satisfaction?

Why do you think I would tell you something so deeply personal? We are not friends.

I just said - revenge is personal. Intentionally destroying someone's life, killing them, is that not a sort of intimacy? Can you not spare some honesty for your victims?

If you cannot bring yourself to offer it to me, or perhaps Obi-Wan, I hope you can be honest with yourself.

Most of my victims haven't come back from the dead. It's not something I am used to dealing with.

And I've already been honest enough with Obi-Wan. Why do you think I haven't tried to kill him again? He doesn't need to be burdened anymore with the shadows of my past than he already is.

Forgive me for fooling myself for a moment into believing you might engage with me as an actual person.

You are a very difficult and vexing woman. I can see how you and your sister are related now.

You want to know the truth? No, it did not give me peace or healing, but neither of those was what I was after. I was angry and in pain and wanted everyone else around me to be angry and in pain as well. I wanted people to suffer the way I had suffered for fourteen long years. And I am supremely good at getting what I want most of the time.

I am puzzled. Are you attempting to brag, or conceding that you failed?

Neither. You asked a question and I answered. It is not my fault you are too witless to understand what I am explaining.

That is neither a reason for your actions, nor a summary of that you actually accomplished. [In fact, she rather thinks he continues to dodge the issue.]

Such a statement serves some other rhetorical purpose.

[Dodging the issue was one of the things Maul was most emotionally adept at, rather than actually holding himself accountable for the many terrible things he had done in his life.]

I merely pointed that out because in the end I wanted to cause Kenobi as much pain as I was in and I succeeded in that goal. Taking you away from him was a satisfying accomplishment. At least for a time.

My death did not destroy him. I could have told you that it wouldn't.

I didn't know that at the time. I underestimated the amount of goodness in him and it was only after that point that I realized nothing would ever make him fall to the Dark Side. Nothing I could ever do would cause that, so I stopped trying.

I wanted to take away half of him the way he'd taken away half of me. If I couldn't do it physically, watching the pain in his eyes as you were ripped away from him was good enough.

I haven't killed you again, have I?

[That was about all he was willing to discuss on the matter of his changing feelings towards Obi-Wan with his girlfriend. Some things he just wasn't going to talk about with anyone and this was one of them.]

Do we have a truce of sorts, then?

[It was a long time before Maul responded but finally he sent a response.]

Yes. You are the sensible one of your family and I know I can trust you to keep a truce as long as we have one. Your sister? Not so much.

My sister can carry quite a grudge, that I will admit.

Has she done something here?

So can I. She deliberately insulted my mother to get a rise out of me and it worked. I would have immediately fought her but fortunately someone else intervened to stop us both.

Beyond that, I am not fond of her concerning what happened after she chose to fight me in the Mandalorian Civil War that happened after you died. I have not actively sought her out but I won't back away from a fight if we end up in the same room together.

I can't quite tell if I should read that as 'I will attack her on sight' or 'Not unless she attacks first'.

More of the latter. I'm not interested in starting a feud that will end with a bunch of people taking sides. But she'd do best not to provoke me. I won't sit back and be insulted by her without repercussions.

[None of this is altering her opinion that he is, on some level, rather pathetic.]

I find it disturbing that you think an insult deserves death, but I am willing to speak to her about minding her words for the sake of not starting a feud.

I'm sure you find many things I think deserve death disturbing. But I digress. You have my thanks for speaking to her for all the good it will do. She can be frightfully stubborn.
