Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme!

Because it's still April and Thoth is still amused, consider this round two of the Initial Misfire Edition. Initial messages maaaaay go to the wrong person! So not all hell breaks loose, replies carry forward with whoever you've reached, but you might be texting your innermost intoxicated or sleep deprived secret to someone you don't even know.

If you'd like to opt out of misfires, please include this in your top level (by prompt or overall). Otherwise, enjoy indulging Thoth's amusement and building some new CR.

This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and as spoons for players accepted into the game.

I should be glad to see the ducks. Ducks are lovely birds.

If they are wild ducks, I don't think the neighbors will like having them in their house.

They are - but these neighbors are a bit eccentric. I don't think they mind.

I took this one a couple weeks ago. They just had ducklings.

I could send my swan to protect them, if you like. It's time for her to start living outdoors again, anyway.

Oh, I think it'll be alright, I wouldn't want to put her to work.

I might just knock on their door until the ducks run back out.

I imagine the ducks will be glad of the chance to leave, if the neighbors don't let them out first. It isn't easy keeping birds, even when they're tame.

I could tell the ducks to go outside when you knock, but I'd need to be close to the house.

Can you talk to birds? That's a useful skill. I can come pick you up if it doesn't work - I'd really like to free them.

I can use magic to communicate with them. [from a certain point of view] I'm on a boat right now, harbored at Nymph Port. I should be glad to help you, but I have to go back to this boat to sleep. It's called the Meaning of Life.

I'm sorry, I don't believe we've been introduced. I'm Sansa Stark of Winterfell. Is it all right if my wolf comes with me? She's very well behaved.

Yes, of course. I'l come get you.

I'm Steve Rogers, of Brooklyn. Yes - if you wouldn't mind sitting on a motorcycle - it's like a horse but with wheels - I've got a sidecar she can sit in.

Thank you. It's very good to meet you. I've seen motorcycles in videos, but I've never ridden one before. I only know how to ride sidesaddle, but I'm sure I'll manage.

[she will put on her skating clothes]

[ He does show up with his bike, sidecar on the side big enough for a wolf or a human or a teenage turtle. ]

You must be Sansa.

[sansa and lady are at the docks; sitting down, lady's head aligns roughly with sansa's chest. they wear matching leather vests, carved with a pattern that matches the branching weirwood spoon at sansa's waist with her relic and the needle-end of her necklace.

under that she wears a knee-length linen dress in charcoal with padded leggings and sturdy black boots. she smiles and offers steve a small curtsey.]

It's good to meet you, Steve. This is Lady. She is very good with birds, and she won't bother the ducks.

[there is a juvenile snowy owl perched on top of the houseboat blankly watching the proceedings.]

[ Steve feels a little underdressed in his button-up and slacks, but he'll manage. He gives a bow to the curtsey. He does notice the owl - and wonders if she talks to it too. ]

Nice to meet Lady, too.

Thanks for offering to help with this by the way. Do you need help getting on the bike?

[ Straight and to the point. ]

[lady stands and yips a friendly greeting. sansa glances at the motorcycle; she had thought bikes were the little ones. she recalls that the stirrups of those were instrumental in moving the bike along and not actually meant to be used to get into the seat. she smiles ruefully at steve.]

Thank you, I should like that very much. I'm glad I can be of use; it doesn't seem to happen as often as I might like.

[lady sniffs at the motorcycle.

I doubt that, Sansa. But I appreciate the help - maybe it's more that people don't take time to tell you that.

[ He offers her a hand to help her onto the parked bike, and also helps Lady to strap into the sidecar before he gets on. ]

It goes pretty fast, you'll want to wear this.

[ He offers her a helmet which is red white and blue. ]

[sansa settles into place a little awkwardly, unable to totally disguise her discomfort at sitting bestride. she gamely puts on the helmet––it crushes her small braided bun into her head a little painfully. she fumbles with the buckle.]

You're very kind; it's only that I haven't found very much to help with––it's so peaceful here, and everyone can summon whatever they need with magic. I'm very glad to be able to spend the time on my studies instead, but I should like to do what I can.

There's plenty of time to figure out what you want to do that isn't something you think you're supposed to do, but I understand. Took me over a year to figure out myself.

[ He starts up the bike and he'll go somewhat slowly at first for her to get used to, a horse's speed, but a very quick one. The ride's a lot smoother. ]

You were offering alterations, weren't you?

[sansa is less concerned with speed than with staying on the motorcycle, but thanks to her ninjutsu training she can use chakra to stay firmly attached. lady pants happily like a dog hanging out of a car window.]

Yes, I'm studying fashion, and I've been helping Rue with their shop. I did very good trade as a dressmaker in the last city I was in, and I should be glad to make anyone anything. I can do alterations and most other kinds of sewing.

[she hasn't stitched a wound before but she knows the basics!!]

What did you figure out that you wanted to do?

That's good -- fine motor skills come in handy a lot here. Great for magic casting, too, believe it or not.

[ Magic or not, that's now an option for her! ]

I'm a painter. I opened up a studio in Epiphany.

I was gonna do it before the war - but then I became a soldier.

[ Which - it definitely looks like he keeps up with his training, just in case he needs to fight again. In case she was confused - he definitely doesn't look like a painter. ]

[most grown men sansa knew in westeros served in one war or another. she might think it strange this should preclude a painting career, except she knows all too well how war can change things.]

That's lovely. I had a studio in Trench, I suppose. I made clothes for performers, as well as anyone else who might need them. I liked it very much. I like studying fashion and enchantments, but I don't feel I do very much else, here. In Trench I helped to make sure everyone had enough to eat, and clothes to wear, and I helped to treat corruption, which is a dangerous sickness of that world.

[sansa believes this is only a magically physical manifestation of people's inner demons, but that isn't especially relevant right now.]

I have thought that people would be better, if all their needs were met, but all I've become here is a better designer, and I don't know if that's my potential.

[her mouth curves up at one corner.]

I would like to learn more spells, though, if I can.

Well, all I know is that I haven't reached my potential yet and I've been here going on two years, so I don't know if I'm the right person to give you advice.

But - if you're enjoying the journey, then I don't think there's a problem. Maybe the Fox wants you to slow down and enjoy life a little. That might just be your potential, or what you need to achieve it.

[ Sometimes people who give away too much of themselves don't stop to take a little, all hosting and no enjoying. ]

And you should definitely speak to Hawke. He teaches me magic.

[dohaeris]

Oh, I have spoken to him! He has a very sweet dog. He told me I could come by for lessons. It's only that I'm studying magic with Rue, and their magic is much more complicated than they let on.

[actually she got distracted with skating lessons...and skating practice...]

I must go visit him and his dog sometime.

Oh, I see. Yes, Rue does have a lot of magic too, I wasn't even aware they took students -

- And Hawke's Mabari is very sweet. I'm not surprised you get along.

[ He hadn't expected Sansa to have a literal giant wolf either, but, hey.

It's not that long of a drive, and they get to the buildings quite quickly, whereupon Steve parks and gestures to a building. ]

I think that's where they're keeping them. The ducks.

They hadn't before. I asked for an apprenticeship, but they wanted to pay me for my work and teach me anyway.

[she looks at the building, and then looks at the ground. sansa is tall, and the motorcycle isn't so high as a horse, but there are no stirrups, and she has never attempted this before.]

I'll need to be somewhere that won't be disturbed, but that isn't too far from the house.

[she hasn't really warged blind before, but she's been able to locate nearby creatures and even people by their chakra before, so she's confident she can do it.]

That sounds like Rue, alright.

[ She does well with the dismount, but Steve is also there to lend a hand if she needs. ]

Is behind a tree okay? They've got a couple ones in the back that aren't tall enough to be seen over the roofline.

[ He makes haste, lightfooted even though he's quite tall and broad. ]

[she does, in fact, need a hand.]

That will do very well. Lady will listen for your knock.

[which sansa will be able to hear through her, but baby steps. she keeps pace well, and so does lady (who appreciates the exercise).]

Who are these neighbors, anyway?

[not that stealing poultry birds is anything unusual in westeros, but usually people prefer to kill the wild ones before bringing them into their home.]
