Texts From Last Night

Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. (You also don't have to use TFLN itself as a source for your messages, or you can modify them for your character.) This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

Not at all, but it depends on which feathers do what. They smaller they are, the less they can carry, but my secondaries are what I used for rescues. The tertiary ones for more delicate matters.

Explain the physics to me. Talk science. (No I am not hitting on you, I leave the dirty science talking to girlfriend time). How can a feather fly on it's own in the air, much less with so much weight attached? I wasn't the best at school, but that rings odd.

My heart is crushed!!

That's what my quirk is. It's not the wings themselves, but my ability to manipulate them. They don't fly on their own, I control them telekinetically.

The weight I had to work on. A lot of training, firming up the feathers just right to support what needs supporting.

It is with a heavy heart I must inform you you are a man and I a lesbian. It never could have worked.

Controlling them telekinetically isn't magic? Magic is scientific where I'm from, so hey, your world, your words. I'm not the nerd to get down into exactly how that all works. I'm good at hitting stuff.

Lots of sweat and tears there huh? Plus broken feathers, I'd bet.

I'll do my best to mend my broken heart, but if I can't go on, I'll remember you fondly.

It's not magic or science. Quirks just are. They're not entirely sure how they came to be either, but everyone has some kind of ability. Well. Almost everyone. 80%.

You don't get to be number two without training. Yeah, feathers break and get damaged. I can grow them back. If I lost them down just to the bone, it would take three days for them to grow back.

I know, it's such a crushing loss for the lads. Perhaps you can find someone else's arms to comfort you.

Not magic, not science. Huh. Fuck the binary I guess. That's a higher proportion of quirky folks than we have necromancers.

I can't count how many times I've been bruised and broken training. No reason it'd be any easier for you. I'm glad losing them isn't permanent. Still has to suck to lose them. You feel that right?

I'll see what I can do, even though this crushing blow has been dealt to me.

Quirks are hard to study because every person's quirk is unique to them. Even if you inherit them from your parents, or parts of them from your parents.

Not even close to permanent, fortunately. It does, and I can feel them, but if I cut off the connection in time I can spare myself the pain. Depends on how I'm going to lose the feathers. I take the hit if I'm doing something I know will hurt but it's for the better good.

It's rough, but if it kills ya, you'll come back thanks to this shiny place we're in.

I know some magic users are used to that idea. It's much less a science, but it's so hard to wrap my head around the idea. Not that I don't understand quirks, you don't want me to explain necromancy if you want to get into the nitty gritty of the theorems, but that other smarter people can't study and understand it. So wild! (We have, admittedly, had ten thousand years, but they cracked a lot in the first couple centuries).

Cool shit, buddy. It would be super cool to have something like that. Sorta a feathery version of Harrow and her bone constructs, except they don't generally fly.

That's a neat trick!

Yeah it's what, third and fourth generation right now? That's not that long for people to have quirks and with them being so varied, the best they can do is determine if it's one of three types. Mine's a mutant-type. You can tell because I don't look entirely human. Quirks like mine have permanent appearance changes.

It's really handy for hero work.

[personal profile] necrosavior 2024-09-12 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sure increases the number of people who've experienced dying who can talk about it. If they're willing.

Guess they might need more generations with all the variety. What would I know. Clearly they need it if they haven't cracked it. They're still at the descriptive sorting phase. What are the other categories? Is mutant-type the coolest? Yours is pretty dang cool.

You ought to meet the other superheroes around these parts.

Not in a hurry to experience that.

There are emitter types, which require conscious thought to activate, and are by far the most common. Anything from quirks with your voice, to manipulating things like fire. Basically it's anything that alters things around you.

Then there are the transformation type where people change their bodies temporarily. They pretty much only affect the user and they're the least likely type to encounter.

Mutant-type quirks are considered the least desirable, partly because aspects of the quirk can be passed down without passing on the actual quirk, and it always changes the user's appearance permanently. That and the quirk tends to affect people in multiple ways as opposed to just one. Some people think heteromorphs are a mistake, and most of them have unique challenges to them that don't affect ordinary people.

Sounds to me like mutant-type is the high risk high reward type, so far as having cool abilities. If the quirk affects in multiple ways, that's like multiple quirks. Bamn, cool abilities. Though I'd see why people would feel cheated if they look different but can't really do anything with that.

Look, if people are having health issues do to mutant-type quirks, don't be a bunch of assholes. Help them the fuck out. (I am guessing this is not people's solutions as a society, and fuck that).
velocityraptor: (pic#17389673)

[personal profile] velocityraptor 2024-09-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of depends on if quirk traits are each cool abilities. People seem to think that mutant quirk users are as inhuman as they might see. Not actually clear if they count as humans or some kind of hybrid species. Heteromorph just wroks.

It's not just health issues, but basic things just aren't made for heteromorphs. Most things don't account for my wings, for example. Clothes, furniture, pretty much everything. I'm not complaining of course, I'm just pointing it out. Every heteromorph has different traits so it would be hard to predict and adapt, you know?

Sounds like that's a people are assholes problem.

Heteromorphs would do great in the Ninth House. We were always reusing and resewing clothes to make them work for the next person. Easy to make that work for anyone. Plus, bones. Bones everywhere, and since it's the bone adept house, necromancy can reshape the fuck out of shit. Not that it's perfect. You'd basically be a monk* (this is an exaggeration, not everyone in the house is a nun or monk, case in point me), but just saying...

Still, it sounds like your society hasn't cared to solve those problems. If they'd tried and failed a bunch more, it still might not be perfect, but it'd be a lot better.

It was just an example. Some quirks have very different needs, but I can't really speak to someone else's needs, just my own. I've already got a job, you know? Thanks for the offer though.

Yeah, it's a big issue. One I can't really get into, but a big issue all the same.

[personal profile] necrosavior 2024-09-16 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It was not a serious offer, for your sake. Shitty job. Terrible living conditions. With Ortus, Harrow, and I not there, no one under the age of forty.

We're here, not there. It's your choice what to get into. You know, unless it turns into a trial thing, in which case, do with that as you will.

I'm kind of used to keeping older company. I was a hotshot, babyfaced eighteen year old when I debuted.

It isn't, not really. I better be on decent behaviour, just in case.

[personal profile] necrosavior 2024-09-17 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey hey eighteen year olds aren't babyfaced. You're thinking of the terrible teen years around fourteen.

See, you wouldn't get dragged half-conscious down the stairs to the main hall.

[personal profile] velocityraptor 2024-09-18 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't debuted then, eighteen was about as far as the Commission was willing to go.

Ah, been there, done that.

Ah, must be when you turn adult in your world. Seventeen for mine, though the Fourth was still going to enlist younger than that. Some kinda Fourth thing, for an exception.

Story time!

[personal profile] velocityraptor 2024-09-19 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's when you're an adult yeah, and done school, that kind of thing.

That's boring, besides, that's classified darling. ;)

[personal profile] necrosavior 2024-09-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Don't know why so many worlds add an extra year. Seventeen for us, though since I grew up in the Ninth House saying "schooling" is stretching the truth a bit. Is it school when there's only two kids?

Classified makes it interesting, and I'm not a narc. I won't tell.

I believe you, however, my lips are sealed.

Pretty much what it amounts to. I talked my way into sword lessons.

Respect, respect. Proving your own trustworthiness.

Sword lessons were part of my education since I use my primaries that way.

Well, I couldn't be a top hero if I didn't know the meaning of discretion.
