I'm not always, uh, under any sort of influence when I do fail.

But it might be a better choice to be more sober in that regard as well.

Apologies, I misunderstood. Do you gain anything useful from failing? Knowledge?

Intoxication isn't something I can experience. I've always wondered what the appeal of it is.

No need to apologize. No harm done.

I think so. Learning how not to do something still teaches you something. Or maybe I'm just an optimist in that way.

No? You're not missing out on much. It can drown out your thoughts for a little while, but you usually pay for it the next day.

I imagine it's good to be an optimist if failing is a frequent occurrence. Though if you're learning from it, maybe it isn't necessarily failing.

I can understand the appeal of a temporary reprieve. But there probably are better ways of achieving it. Do you often feel the need to drown out your thoughts?

That's a... really good way of looking at it. Self-improvement is a journey, after all.

Turns out having a pet is a blessing too. Really keeps you occupied.

I do. They've led me astray before. It's difficult to know if they'll do that to me here.

[ Having his own attempt at optimism received well is a nice change of pace. The past several weeks have been rough in that regard. ]

I've also found taking care of others — pet, person, or plant alike — can help to provide a sense of purpose here. Even more so than trials do. What kind of pet do you have?

That sounds more ominous than you may have intended it to. Is it too personal to ask how they led you astray?

I've heard that. I'm a Familiar, so I've been trying to lean into the responsibilities of that Role a little more.

A griffon fledgling. She's still about the size of a medium dog now. It's been a learning curve.

I thought I could help a goddess create a utopia on Earth free of suffering by eradicating evil. Turns out that was misguided.

Speaking as a Familiar who's been here a few years... take care that you don't start to lose yourself in the process. It's unfortunate that the support we're expected to provide others isn't always mutual.

That's an interesting choice of pet. Are you able to go flying with her? I'm not sure if the robotic spider who lives with me is necessarily a pet, but it does seem fitting for me.

And I stand corrected, it sounded as ominous as it actually is. Were you manipulated into doing that or was it your choice to?

You too huh? Glad to meet someone who also feels that overwhelming sense to help. I appreciate it.

She doesn't fly yet. I'm a little afraid of that day. Oh, I remember those little spiders running around. Do you like robots?

It was my choice. I wouldn't make it again though... at least I don't think so.

Not a fan of flying or just worried about the trouble she'll get into? Personally I find the ability to fly to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of Familiardom.

And it's more that I am one. Well, an android. I believe that's what drew the spiderbot to me in the first place.

What did eradicating evil entail? Though I'll understand if you'd prefer not to talk about it.

Definitely the trouble she'll get into. I can't turn into anything that flies. It sounds like it would be kind of fun.

That's kind of interesting it could tell that about you. It seems like it exhibits some empathy.

I had the ability to look into people's souls and their intentions. Some people had evil desires, others may have had something in their future that potentially caused harm to others. I thought ridding the world of them would bring about peace.
