The way forward so often is not via the means we might predict for ourselves.

It was her Christmas gift for me, the year before last, and what a pleasure it is to say the year before last. I appreciate every moment we've had together here.

Ah, yes, I know that sound. Marriage is not undertaken lightly, and it comes with all sorts of challenges.

Which is what makes it all the sweeter, to look back on a point you didn't even realize would be a moment in your life that things turned around for you.

I am pleased to see you two together. After the life both of you have led, you deserve the happiness each of the other is capable of showing.

I never thought myself to be a marrying sort of Nightbrother. It is one of the stranger turns my life has taken.

Though with love, a vampire knows right away. It is how we are, part of our nature and our strong emotions. If anything humans move at a slower pace in this regard, and I have learned to modulate the outpouring of my emotions so as not to overwhelm someone who hasn't had the chance to feel the same way yet about me.

Would that we could all find such happiness. The world would be better for it.

What made you such unmarriable material?

I have sensed that from you before. It's not that your emotions are more powerful than others I have met, simply that there is MORE in general there to find when I reach out towards you with the Force.

I did not think I would ever find someone who accepted me for who I am wholeheartedly without wanting to change me to become their idea of "better." Or that I would find someone to love whose inner darkness matched my own. And yet I found all of that and more with Reaper.

I am curious about the Force and how it differs between vampires and humans, perhaps even different kinds of vampires. My race is not merely some undead version of humans but our own separate race, and within that, I am a Greater Noble, a title that is not mere pompous attitude but a recognition of the differences between us within our species.

It is no less remarkable the second or third time that it happens, though as I know of little difference in lifespan between you and your husband, I hope you may never have the opportunity to find out.

Fascinating. I would like to make the comparison myself at some point in time. Humans are usually varied in how they feel in the Force but even between you and other vampires I have met over the years, there has been some variation there as well. You are one of the loudest in the Force of those who feed off of blood that I have met.

Reaper is functionally immortal. While I have a potentially long lifespan if disease or a death blow in a fight does not interfere with it, I will not live forever. He once told me he shall build a monument in honor after I am dead and eternally guard it. Quite a romantic idea in my opinion. Of course, there is every possibility that what can kill him simply hasn't been created yet. I'd prefer to be in death with him that forever separated, parted between the veils of Life and Death.

There are some other vampires here, but our numbers have always been few as we come and go, the same as other Star Children save the dearth of us makes each loss felt all the more. Blood is a source of life for some vampires but not me, and I drink synthetic blood not human blood. You may inspect a vial of the synthetic blood sometime if you wish. I would be surprised if it gives off anything of the Force, but perhaps vampires have created some life despite the only intention being to break the dependence (and feeding) on humans.

As someone functionally immortal, unless something should happen to me, death will come in time. It always does. If nothing else, the universe one day shall end and him along with it. You may have to wait for him for some time, but he will come. I am sure of it.

I would like that. It is interesting to see how the Force flows through some items because they contain a form of life just like sapient species do.

That is a comforting thought, to know we will not be parted for all eternity, but only for a vast amount of time.

As good as synthetic blood works, I cannot claim to understand everything about it, nor indeed everything about the drive for blood which led to its development, for it is well known in my world that vampires can live without drinking blood of any kind. It is only a difficulty in the mind, a psychological need, that must be addressed.

I am glad for the comfort it brings and am certain in the joy you two will have each time you reunite.

Fascinating. A species that can live for an eternity should nothing happen to cause them to otherwise perish and without any of the typical needs of species that age. I am sure there are scientists that would be happy to live a full lifetime simply studying your species.

The joy will be create indeed, enough to create another star if it was put out there physically in the universe.

We studied ourselves, and our science went far beyond human understanding. Some things remain a mystery, even as we now die out of existence. Perhaps it was a flaw in our being or only natural that a species that otherwise cannot die would cause their own destruction.

A beautiful way to think about the stars. It means there's a vast amount of love in the universe, more than we've counted.
survivalthroughhate: ([TCW 23] Is that so?)

[personal profile] survivalthroughhate 2025-03-12 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
If you cannot die, I feel inertia is bound to set in at some point, especially if there is not anything motivating a species to continue onwards and push themselves forward instead.

I am not much of a poetic sort but occasionally I can find a beautiful turn of phrase.

There was plenty more vampires wished to accomplish, though we were no monolith in agreement as to what exactly that should be. It does not require inertia to cause destruction. That very ambition can drive one toward it much the same.

A blessing of the use of language.

Your world truly sounds fascinating. If this place ever allows us to visit a facsimile of it or the genuine article, I would like to, if only to see what you speak of firsthand.

A true compliment from one so eloquent as you. I still have that quote you told me once framed on my wall in beautiful calligraphy. I ponder it from time to time.

It happened once before in Trench. Should it happen here, I am willing to accompany you, for you would not be welcomed warmly by vampire kind, at least outside my family.

So our legacies are parts of ourselves we do not predict, much as we cannot always know the effects we have on others.

One must never say never in this place, so I shall hope it happens and I can see your home. It seems like it would be a fascinating experience.

As usual, well said my friend.

Yet I do not miss it myself, not the world itself, not the Frontier, not vampire civilization at its peak. All I miss are people, and I have long had to come to terms with those feelings.
