Its around the corner of the stairs, so by perspective likely true. But, I have hangover cure, and the lights are on low.

I’ll start on both. You can start in there until it’s done. But I still suggest you move to the kitchen sooner than later.

[The combination of the promise of dimly lit kitchen, food, and coffee is at least enough to get him to start moving, unenthusiastic as it might be. He'll eventually be heard slumping his way down the stairs, slow but steady.

Dignity won't allow him to whine that he could just eat in the bathroom, he's not that much of a mess today, anyways]

[The light in the kitchen is soft and warm. The lights are angled so one doesn’t have to look at any of them directly to navigate the room.

There is a machine happily burbling away with the scent of fresh coffee coming from it. Dan Heng has a pan on the stove and is checking in a bowl. He goes back to cutting a loaf of milk break and nods to him when Fjord enters the kitchen.] Go ahead and sit down. That cup on the table is for you.

[The hangover cure. It really doesn’t look pleasant. It smells vaguely medical. But it won’t taste like much. The texture is the worst part. Like swallowing blended oatmeal.]

[Fjord still looks pretty damn sorry, but at least the consideration of the light's angle means he doesn't have to squint too badly, vaguely lifting a hand in a low-energy wave in response.

More than willing to go and pour himself into the chair, staring for a long, uncertain moment at the cup and it's contents.]

I'm just... not gonna ask what's in this.

[Nope we're gonna be a goddamn adult and pick that cup up and drink the consequences of his shitty evening choices. And honestly, the texture is made even worse by how bland it tastes. Like there's nothing to distract from it.

But he's just gonna grimace, and down the whole damn thing before he thinks better of it.]

Better you don’t. [He says as he checks the bowl again. He transferred the soaked milk bread into the pan. He takes the other cut slices and adds them to the bowl.

The sizzle of French toast in a pan is the only sound for a moment. He moves some things on the counter around,] Just the French toast or can you handle some eggs?

[Pay no mind to the half-orc just gingerly shifting to rest his forehead against the table. Honestly it feels kinda good with the wood being cool and all.

The question has him turning his head just enough to peer his companion's way.]

Eggs sound fine if it's not too much. Whatever way works.

[Dan Heng is the same as ever. A little worn at the edges. He did drink a bit too. His tail isn’t moving that much.

Look.

Some people don’t show they are hung over that much.

He moves slices of French toast onto a plate and brings it over.] Lets stick to this. If you want eggs just ask and I’ll make them.

[He eyes his own mug of the cure and downs in one go. Behind his tail jerks like an offended cat’s.] Awful.

[Look, at least someone in the equation is semi-functional. Fjord could make himself do it, but Dan Heng seems willing and able, so he's more than happy to take the moment to just be a hung over dork and really think about his life choices.

Not that it's gonna change them anytime soon!]

[And that reaction to the cure, comment and tail jerk both, earn a low chuckle from him.]

Don’t be alarmed, please. [He pours cool water into a mug and in a blink a tiny long green dragon climbs into the cup and pulls the lid half over the top. A small green foot grips the edge.

His voice is smaller but still clear.] Much better.

[He had had the foresight to get Fjord a fork. But he still sticks his small head out to look. Yep. The dragon head goes back under the lid.] This familiar power has its benefits.

[Fjord is just gonna... blink a moment, actually perking up a bit to observe the shift and...

Oh no, tiny dragon, that's adorable. He can't help a faint quirk of lips on a grin.]

Yeah? Looks like a nice lil setup.

[And because it's fresh and ready, he will absolutely be digging into his breakfast. Gods damn but French toast just hits today.]

I’ve used it once before. I wondered if it would be better with water. [The tiny clawed foot gestures widely. A tail drapes over the edge of the cup.]

It helps a lot more than I expected. [A water dragon being rejuvenated by water. Who knew. He shifts around in the cup to comfortably float and grows a little in size. Just enough.]

[Dan Heng is a person, self-aware and the whole shebang. So Fjord has to resist the urge to tweak the tip of the hanging tail.

It doesn't stop him being incredibly amused by the visual of tiny little dragon hanging out in a cup. It's surprisingly charming.]

Seems like you're perkin' up some there. [The amusement is not being hidden in his voice at all, no matter his resisting the urge to mess with his companion.]

[It’s a bit like decent medication kicking in for a headache.]

Yeah. I’m feeling a lot better. I didn’t want to take up much room and this… [He gestures with a foot again.]

This is a perfect way to handle it.

How big's your dragon shape normally?

[Because honestly that whole thing with turning into a dragon is actually kind of cool. Fjord might be the teensiest bit jealous.]

Vast. I haven’t used the full size since I got here. Having transformation be this easy and without consequence is strange.

There was a price for it at home. [But here? None. It’s still very odd but welcome.]

Sounds pretty impressive. What kinda price though? There's like... polymorph back home to shapeshift, or druids doin' their druid-y thing... but the cost on those isn't anything too wild that I know of.

[Dan Heng drapes his head over the rim of the mug. How does he put this?]

…we give up being in the present. It’s hard to care about the present when the view you have when you shift is the same view a mountain has of the people walking upon it. It’s a heavier price than I think scholars and historians really realize.

That... sounds intense.

[The idea of it is definitely something he thought it was unsurprising that people might underestimate the consequence of. All he could really compare it to was the idea of how one might view something like an ant crawling along their arm or something of the sort. It would be impossible to have more than a passing thought for such a thing, and that was if a person even noticed it in the first place.]

I think I can kind of understand why you wouldn't risk it that often. Probably not nearly close to why, but that's not really surprising. It's a pretty big outlook shift to try and sort out.

It is. It puts the High Elder closer to the aeon we originated from. The way of permanence is widely misunderstood. The truth of it is the only permanent thing in all of life is that things change.

And that is why being able to change as I please is…very different. [He wiggles in his cup and settles himself so he’s very comfortable. His head and front feet resting on the rim.]

…I’ve avoided my true size. If the price is still there. I don’t want to become it lightly. I will need to hold onto a purpose before I take shape or I will lose myself. And thus not able to truly assist.

Don't rightly blame you bein' cautious about it.

[Fjord considered it a bit farther as he nibbled at his breakfast.]

Bein' without a purpose though... I think just about anyone'd lose themselves even a little. Maybe not to the degree you're talkin' about, but still.

[He has absorbed enough water that his head doesn’t feel like it is trapped in a vice. He flows out of the mug and as he passes by the edge of the table he changes back.

But this time he doesn’t wrap himself in a guise. His hair is long and edges into green. His eyes are marked with red at the edges. His sharply pointed ears just adds to the picture.

He sits down, arranging his robes and tail.] You’re right.

[The voice is the same.] With the High Elders often so isolated to do their duties. They don’t have an anchor in the present.

I do but, hopefully I will never have a reason to show my true size.
