Weirdly a few people have volunteered. I thought it was weird when someone I shared a crib with volunteered. It was even weirder from practical strangers

I dunno, it's not that weird. Some people might be curious, others think it's kind of hot (I saw Interview with the Vampire, I kind of get it), but for those that are close to you, it's about making things easier for you.

My mom was one of those people. Dedicated her life to wanting to become a vampire because she thought it was hot and amazing. [ turned out to be a Terrible Decision she regretted. At least Elena got it honest. ] I had someone back home that offered because he felt responsible and wanted to help. But I don't know I'm close enough to the people here that offered for it to be that. Must be they wanted to reenact Interview.

One hell of a thing to dedicate your life to. [ Especially with a daughter. It makes sense Elena was adopted. ] Why would he feel responsible? Is he the reason you were turned?

Right? She really dedicated her life to it too. Went all out with research and obsession [ at least this is text so nobody ever needs to know she's still bothered by it all! ] No, not really. Do you really want the long story of it?

Yes and no.

It's not that interesting. I mean, long story short an enhanced original vampire was after me. Which is just basically a ridiculously powerful vampire. Matt, my childhood best friend, and my brother Jeremy decided that the plan I'd agreed to was too dangerous.

Their brilliant plan was drugging me and getting me out of town. A different vampire showed up as we were crossing the bridge out of our town. She'd knew the only way to keep her family safe from the enhanced original was killing me.

Cue our car getting knocked off the bridge into the river. My boyfriend, a vampire, showed up, I asked him to save Matt first not me. I died.

Except, turns out I had vampire blood in my system and nobody knew so I came back.

The conclusion of the story is Matt blames himself for me being a vampire. [ which...50/50 it was sort of on him and their terrible plan but she'd never blame him! ]

Well. I mean.

He does deserve some blame here. Both of them do. They ignored your choice, stole your agency, and drugged you, as if that ever goes well! Even if the plan was dangerous, it was your choice and they shouldn't have intervened like that.

I'm glad your boyfriend listened to you, at least, even if it's part of the reason you turned.

Pretty used to people doing that.

That sounded way more depressing than I meant

But really they were just trying to keep me safe in the only way they could think of. Best of intentions.

I'm glad Stefan listened to me too or Matt would have been actually dead.

I don't know, Elena, it still sounds shitty but... Shit, I'd be a hypocrite if I judged them too harshly.

Good on Stefan, though I can't imagine how difficult that was. For the both of you. [ Dying sucks and... knowing the person you loved died because you couldn't save them in time also sucks. They got served a real shit sandwich by life. ]

Yeah, I really am grateful for it. I think that's why he's so obsessed with finding me a cure though

Oh shit, you can get cured? Is that something you want?

Allegedly there might be?

I don't think I ever wanted to be a vampire and everyone else is working for it. [ which isn't really an answer but it's what she gives. ]

In some of the vampire fiction, killing the person that changed you cures anyone they've turned.

Ah. [ That wasn't quite an answer but she also gets that maybe Elena doesn't want to think too much about it. ]
