I try to look away. Whenever I'm in someone's memories.
[ To give them peace. To make sure he's not intruding. But sometimes it becomes difficult, to turn a blind eye. To not do anything. ]

The fox seems to think that we all need someone to help us through. To generate lore. And the only way to do that is to interact with people.
[ They're doing it right now, whether Nat can feel it or not. But... to be in an intense situation like a trial, and to share memories, it feels like they get more of it. Maybe that's all part of Thirteen's plan. It's not Steve's favorite thing. ]

You know, I thought being dead would make me exempt from forced therapy sessions.
[ And wow, that's a thing she just said out loud. Heh. At least she amuses herself. She takes her final sip of coffee and vaguely wishes for something stronger. ]

[ But he knows what she means, after having worked it through with Tony and with Nat previously. They thought they could rest, and, maybe this place had other plans for them.
But even so, Steve can't be too mad. And he's certain that she'll come around. ]

[ She is completely sure is she is dead -- she remembers the fall, the moment when her breathing grew impossible and she blacked out... far more peacefully than she ever thought she would go. At that height she'd known, technically, she'd be dead before impact. She hadn't wanted to die, but the choice had been a simple one.
It occurs to her, belatedly, that maybe Steve really didn't know. He'd talked to her like he had, but... well, it's not as if she'd told him where and when she'd come from.
And that sure as hell wasn't going to happen now!

For all we know, this is just an elaborate afterlife. With decent lattes. And cats. And we're all dead.
[ She's not a fan of the Russian winter in her last sentence, but she was raised how she was raised. ]

[ But then, it won't matter if he goes back and has all that knowledge about Thanos. Nothing would happen, because it'd already have happened. It gives him a headache. He'd prefer to think about it in another way. ]
Also, if it's an afterlife, then, it's a pretty good one.
[ Not exactly heaven, but, he has a vegetable garden. He has a job. He gets to see his friends every day. He can't complain. ]

[ There's an odd freedom to saying what she'd have only thought before - but she hadn't thought she'd see him again... at all. So. She wants him to know that. In case. ]

[ He smiles, and then finishes his coffee. And thinks about ordering more pastries. One of the cats gets annoyed and leaves to go hang with someone else. ]

[ He reaches into his beard and takes out a flower, offering it to her. ]

She takes the flower and twirls it between her fingers, giving him a little smirk. ]

[ He grins at her, and it's an easy one. He's adjusted to this life, but he knows it'd taken him some time. When he'd arrived, he'd been chased down by the ghost of Charles Spencer. It'd taken him months just to get over the time pause idea.
But now, look at him. Thriving. That's really all he wants for her. But, it's okay if it takes time. ]

[ A compromise. He did find a hobbit hole and decorate his beard with flowers. His motorcycle has a little woven basket in front with tassels because the spirit neighbors thought that it could use a little sprucing. Steve spends his days with cats. This is perfect. ]
