If only time were the only thing here that is utterly fucked. I have no idea how long it's been anymore. I met someone recently who claimed they were Tav and they KNEW things about me, but I didn't recognize them at all.

I do appreciate the acknowledgement of my hard earned erudition, but the only explanation I have for you is that there are worlds upon worlds that exist beyond the one we know.

It's possible for alternative ones to exist with us in it living alternative lives, clearly we come from a similar place if not dissimilar times.

I rather prefer to think of myself as one of a kind, but... it WOULD explain the Tav thing.

I rather doubt another you or even another Gale for that matter, would be exactly the same or have the exact same experiences.

You may have a point there. That "Tav" certainly knew AN Astarion. Just not me.

[It's a while before Astarion says anything else, presumably because he's thinking about all the implications of alternate Astarions with alternate life experiences.]

I'm also one that knows you, though perhaps not everything about you as you're still an enigma. Though perhaps that's the place to start.

What are your last memories of our travels?

Well, it's hard not to get to know someone fairly well after sleeping out in the woods together long enough and trying not to die together.

Not CARNALLY, I mean, you know.

If time IS disconnected, though, and I tell you something that could be your future, is it going to be a problem? You're not going to explode, right?

I hardly think I will explode unless you're being very coy about getting up to carnal activities in the woods as though that were some kind of foretoken.

So go on then, lay it on me, you can be vague if you need to be -- just generalities to see if anything lines up.

Oh, I certainly did, just not with you.

I'm pretty sure Halsin lay with Tav as a bear once. But that's pure speculation. Just some unexpected noises from two people.

Anyway -- last I remember, we actually defeated the Netherbrain, against all odds. Never thought I'd say that in my life. So if you aren't there yet -- congratulations? Good news for you.

And you didn't need to kill yourself either, no matter what Mystra said. And... if that hadn't occurred to you as an option yet... Well, don't take it to heart.

I cannot tell you how immeasurable my relief is in that our relationship remains unspoiled.

I can also tell you that the mental image of Halsin and Tav was not only unnecessary, I might never recover from the damage you've caused. Thank you.

As none of that has happened for me yet all of this is a relief, especially the part about not killing myself. Where did that leave you? Netherbrain gone that must mean the tadpole is gone for you as well.

The tadpole is indeed gone. As you can imagine, that includes all of its effects. It's not the ideal situation, but at least I don't have to worry about tentacles ruining my face.

Tav and I have actually been exploring the Underdark for the last few months, so it hasn't been all bad.

How very altruistic of you and yet I still feel scandalized at the same time. That's quite an ability, if only you could harness it for the forces of good.

Your charming good looks will remain intact, but the sunlight, I suspect, is a problem for you unless something has changed on that account. For whatever it's worth, I am sorry.

You and Tav, I suspect Halsin was along for the ride as well?

I appreciate that. But it's fine! The Underdark is a large place, and -- well, I'll leave SOME surprises for you. Besides, we haven't given up on the sun just yet.

Halsin actually chose to return to Moonrise and the area around there. He's been rebuilding the place now that the Shadow Curse is gone. Last I heard, he's taken in a bunch of children and he tells them stories about us. It's... cute.

Not exactly a consolation for the sunlight you had for so brief a time, but if you've got a plan to get back out into the sun then I'm sure I support it or at least I ought to.

Interesting, considering their entanglement you would think Halsi would be more inclined to be with Tav. I suppose duty beckons.

Did anyone else go into the Underdark?

To be honest, I was surprised as well. Both that Halsin chose to leave and that Tav chose to stay with me.

Halsin always has been about that "free spirit," one-with-nature sort of lifestyle, though.

We still visit on occasion. Minsc also somehow manages to find us to visit, despite my efforts...
