How long did it take you to adjust to Familiar...hood?

It takes weeks to months to get used to a new form for me. I’m still testing the monster form I met you as.

Is that form more difficult than the others you've turned into? I adapted pretty quickly with my first. [ That particular form of his did come from a moment of hardship, she wonders if that affects it. ]

It's not difficult. It's about putting it through its paces. Wintermute has been a suitable place to practice without scaring anyone. There was a lot you bypassed by being so clever.

I bet Agrona and Baba Yaga would be useful places to practice, too.

& I wasn't clever, I wanted to hide. I was embarrassed and that just happened to work in my favor. From there, I just... tapped into that same need.

And I had no desire to hurt anyone. It gave me the excuse to hold onto my principles.

I could tell. You're lucky you didn't go mad. Some people did.

…You could say I have no desire to lose myself at any point. Even something like that can’t kill my will.

Not everyone has that strong of a will. Think it helps with how in touch you are as a Familiar?

No. I think it helps I have memories of what will happen if I don’t refuse to fall. I grew up with tales of what happens when you let yourself become something terrible.

The combine means I won’t give in. I won’t bend to something trying to drive me to madness. I refuse to mirror the tales my father told over the campfire.

[ Was he raised on superstitious tales or was there a truth to them he took to heart? ] What happens to the people in those tales?

The king goes mad and breaks his kingdom. The alchemist lets in things beyond and ushers in a calamity. History lessons about what not to do and how not to be arrogant. Things like that.

Sounds like your tales did a better job with lessons than the ones from my childhood.

Yes, they certainly were a very loud cautionary tale. My elders made sure to tell them often.

[fogsong]

Bet your elders are patting themselves on the back.

I never thought to ask. I haven’t seen them in quite some time. But they at least think it was smart to tell a child horrific history lessons.

Hey, it embedded those lessons into you! The only thing my childhood lessons instilled into me as a kid was god sucks.
