Texts From Last Night

Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.
This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

[ If she does keep an eye on it, she might discover some things pretty quickly. ]
And if you don't know where to stay, you can always stay at the Compound for a bit.
Peggy's there. I think you'll like her.
[ He knows that they were good friends on her world, so, he can't imagine that this version of Nat wouldn't get along with her. ]
She'll be happy for someone else to spar with.

A compound sounds very military, [ she observes before taking a sip of her coffee.
She remembers Steve at Peggy Carter's funeral. He doesn't say her name with weight now. Affection, certainly, but not... pain. And she remembers that he said she was from the same world as the other version of himself, the one where he never took the serum.
And she thinks it must kind of suck to see a glimpse into your own life and how things could have been so clearly, for every version involved. And she wonders if it hurts him to see the evidence of his sickness, the stalking shadow of death in each cough, all over again. And she wants to bring it up, to give him a chance to leech out some of what has to be the pain of wanting to make things better... but it doesn't feel... mmm. The right time. ]
Is there a military here?
no subject
Which is why he doesn't expect Nat's question. ]
No, not really. Just Avengers. Maybe some other groups - there's a group of Jedi, but I don't think they call themselves military.
[ Kind of like how the Avengers don't consider themselves military either. ]
no subject
Huh.
[ She's not sure she buys that, but then again... they were brought here by a cosmic fox, apparently, so... ]
So it's all flowers and coffee with the occasional Loki?
[ Seems sus. ]

[ But then you come back to life, as he'd said. ]
I know it's a lot to take in.
[ He says, petting the cats. ]
But it's - it'll make sense.

Our lives were already pretty weird before this, [ she observes, a simple statement. ] But I hope you realize you just said 'get kidnapped by sharks' and 'sometimes faeries come to attack and kill you' in the same sentence.
no subject
[ Or even dug a hundred-year-old guy out of some ice? ]
I do have to tell you, though. Thirteen's got a way of making us relive our worse memories.
[ And he knows Nat won't like that. ]
no subject
[ She doesn't visibly react to this new news, but she's not thrilled by it. It likely won't be worse than what happened with Wanda, making it so immediate...
Ah well. The worst things that happened... have already happened.
She's dead now, anyway. Shouldn't it be easier? ]
Huh.
[ Simply, absorbing that. ]
no subject
It's a lot to take in. ]
I try to look away. Whenever I'm in someone's memories.
[ To give them peace. To make sure he's not intruding. But sometimes it becomes difficult, to turn a blind eye. To not do anything. ]
no subject
You mean other people see the memories, we're not just forced to relive them?
no subject
The fox seems to think that we all need someone to help us through. To generate lore. And the only way to do that is to interact with people.
[ They're doing it right now, whether Nat can feel it or not. But... to be in an intense situation like a trial, and to share memories, it feels like they get more of it. Maybe that's all part of Thirteen's plan. It's not Steve's favorite thing. ]
no subject
[ She says, again, impassive, as several things click into place. ]
You know, I thought being dead would make me exempt from forced therapy sessions.
[ And wow, that's a thing she just said out loud. Heh. At least she amuses herself. She takes her final sip of coffee and vaguely wishes for something stronger. ]
no subject
You're not dead yet, Nat.
[ But he knows what she means, after having worked it through with Tony and with Nat previously. They thought they could rest, and, maybe this place had other plans for them.
But even so, Steve can't be too mad. And he's certain that she'll come around. ]
What's something you wanted to do while you were alive?
cw: death and falling - ack, sorry, it posted before I was done
You don't know that.
[ She is completely sure is she is dead -- she remembers the fall, the moment when her breathing grew impossible and she blacked out... far more peacefully than she ever thought she would go. At that height she'd known, technically, she'd be dead before impact. She hadn't wanted to die, but the choice had been a simple one.
It occurs to her, belatedly, that maybe Steve really didn't know. He'd talked to her like he had, but... well, it's not as if she'd told him where and when she'd come from.
And that sure as hell wasn't going to happen now!
Let the man keep his illusions. ]
For all we know, this is just an elaborate afterlife. With decent lattes. And cats. And we're all dead.
[ She's not a fan of the Russian winter in her last sentence, but she was raised how she was raised. ]

[ But then, it won't matter if he goes back and has all that knowledge about Thanos. Nothing would happen, because it'd already have happened. It gives him a headache. He'd prefer to think about it in another way. ]
Also, if it's an afterlife, then, it's a pretty good one.
[ Not exactly heaven, but, he has a vegetable garden. He has a job. He gets to see his friends every day. He can't complain. ]
And then I wonder where people go after this.
no subject
[ She is arguing this with zero investment and partially to be a brat, as Steve may recognize. The truth is, if she's right about this, then Steve's dead. And she. Doesn't want that. So. It's just a giant flag wave of distraction, really. ]
no subject
Then we're not really in a hurry to go back, are we?
[ Which, honestly, is good for him. He'd be glad to spend more time with Nat. ]
no subject
[ Although... she would like to know... if it worked.
She sets the thought aside for now and tilts her head slightly, looking at Steve searchingly for a moment. ]
I'm glad you're happy, Steve.
[ There's an odd freedom to saying what she'd have only thought before - but she hadn't thought she'd see him again... at all. So. She wants him to know that. In case. ]
no subject
[ He smiles, and then finishes his coffee. And thinks about ordering more pastries. One of the cats gets annoyed and leaves to go hang with someone else. ]
You could try it sometime, Nat. 'Cause you deserve it too.
[ He reaches into his beard and takes out a flower, offering it to her. ]
Here.
heading toward the end? tysm for this thread! it's a delight
Heh. Life's never been about what I deserve, Steve.
Nah. She's got a second chance. She's not gonna use it to squish Steve, for however long this lasts.
She takes the flower and twirls it between her fingers, giving him a little smirk. ]
Don't tell me. There's plenty more where that came from.
sure thing and same back <3!
[ He grins at her, and it's an easy one. He's adjusted to this life, but he knows it'd taken him some time. When he'd arrived, he'd been chased down by the ghost of Charles Spencer. It'd taken him months just to get over the time pause idea.
But now, look at him. Thriving. That's really all he wants for her. But, it's okay if it takes time. ]

[ Steve Rogers: Gardner. Who knew? ]
no subject
[ He'd gotten it because the Hobbit reminded him of earlier days, when he and Buck would swap fantasy novels to read. ]
Don't worry, I dropped the foundation, so it's tall.
no subject
It's cruel of you to even suggest such a thing.
no subject
[ A compromise. He did find a hobbit hole and decorate his beard with flowers. His motorcycle has a little woven basket in front with tassels because the spirit neighbors thought that it could use a little sprucing. Steve spends his days with cats. This is perfect. ]
I'll go settle the bill. You make sure Miso doesn't cry after me.
